"Broken Flower" written and directed by Jim Jarmusch is indeed the most light-hearted work ever written about his predecessor.
Tang is a middle-aged man who doesn't talk about marriage. He is still charming and has countless ex-girlfriends. His ex-girlfriends always seemed to be tall women with blond hair and blue eyes, and blond hair became something he missed. At the beginning, he broke up with his current girlfriend, and after being extremely depressed, he received a letter telling him that he had a son. To find out who the child is, Tang embarks on a journey to visit his ex-girlfriend.
His ex-girlfriend is either beautiful, smart, sweet and quiet, or passionate. It's her, but not like her. Is Tang caught in the distress of missing his ex-girlfriend? No, he may just miss the feeling he once felt.
The first ex-girlfriend to visit stayed with him, making him nostalgic for his youthful impulses. When I was young is indeed the most nostalgic time, there is a desperate time that no other age does. The second ex-girlfriend who went to visit was already a wife, and there was indeed an inexplicable embarrassment when they had dinner with their husband and wife. The third ex-girlfriend to visit was an animal communicator, and the clear boundaries and brains forced him to make sure this wasn't the person he was looking for. The fourth ex-girlfriend who went to visit still had a lot of resentment towards Tang, and after a big cry, her husband beat Tang up. Tang and these four women have an indescribable past, but the ending is very similar.
Each ex-girlfriend left him specious hints that she might be the owner of that letter. However, it was not revealed who wrote the letter. It seems that it doesn't matter whose own it is. There are also two people suspected of Tang's son at the end of the film, but it is impossible to know who is the master of the letter and where the son is. I think this is probably the most successful part of the film. I used to think that the opposite of "love" was "not love", but now I know it's forgetting. Tang did not forget which ex-girlfriend, nor did he love any ex-girlfriend anymore.
Tang's emotions were all low, not to know the true image of the letter, but to awaken the deepest thing in his memory. When he searched for the truth, the answer came out. No matter who Thaksin belongs to, a new life is coming. And the encounter with his ex-girlfriend is also what today's confusion and tomorrow's happiness have to experience.
When you're feeling down, the scariest thing is not knowing why you're feeling down. After a sudden realization, happiness will follow. It's the lighthearted joy of unpacking.
The ex is not someone, but an irreversible time. This is what Tang taught us. And finding the source of pain when we are depressed, letting go of what we should have let go, and finding a new life, this is what Tang taught us. Happiness does not come suddenly, it comes step by step.
The tenderness of life is: there is always a person who will resist the wind and rain for you.
