Freud wanted to be a strong man, an authority, on the other hand, he had a sense of dependence on others. So when others admire him and agree with him, he is friendly and generous. But when others doubted him and criticized him, he did not tolerate it at all.
He needs to rely on the unconditional support and approval of others. The son's independence has grown stronger and the father's authority has been shaken.
From a fiery friendship to an eventual breakup is absolutely inevitable.
