middle age crisis

The film begins with rambles, and the first twenty minutes have been two middle-aged men who have finished their work chatting outside the courtyard of their home.

Then there is the world in which the protagonist lives, a 53-year-old black man who has been through the vicissitudes of life or has been sculpted by time. The script lines seem to be the essence of this movie, and all the information can be subtly perceptible to the audience through dialogue.

The unfortunate young man was unlucky and underappreciated. He has been married for 18 years. When he was 8 years old, his mother could not bear to run away from home. When he was 14 years old, he ran away from home. He was forced by life and went to prison for 15 years. Of course, there is also a buried dream, which is football. After being released from prison, Yao Xiang was already in his thirties. His ex-girlfriend's current wife gave birth to two sons. The eldest son loves music, and the second son has inherited his father's possible genes. He loves football and wants his father's approval and support. This kind of experience has a deep-rooted influence on the truths he knows, such as responsibility, and is passed on to the next generation, but it is a vicious circle. This movie tells us that if you don't fulfill your dreams and succumb to life itself, then for your next generation, you can't let him follow your life trajectory, but give him more freedom of choice.

But the movie not only tells about the uncle's mid-life crisis, but the plot emerges. He had an affair, and when he came home, he told his wife that it was not that I had cheated, but that I was going to be someone else's father. This is simply a double whammy. It's a shame that my wife actually said that you have put this kind of thing on me for so many years. If it was 10 or 15 years ago, I could have figured it out. Too much irony.
Maybe this is the fence, the theme of this movie, the fence in the yard is not only to isolate the outside world, but also to maintain a complete home. At the same time, fences represent insecurity for everyone, and fences are needed to escape and isolate.

As a woman, Rose also has dreams, but she does everything a wife should do. It seems that every man who cheats will say that she gave me a completely different feeling and made me have another understanding of myself. Marriage is actually a kind of contract spirit. Anyone who is outside the rules will violate the rules. Of course, you must be prepared for the uncertainties of life that follow. From the perspective of women, the sense of independence is now so strong among women. Maybe we continue to improve ourselves and enrich ourselves, but also to better meet all of life. It's probably the best state to be in a calm state. In the movie, the daughter of the nurse passed away, but in real life, it is either coerced by life, or it is to jump out of life and open a new world. The movie is beautiful and cruel, and it ends with the funeral of my father. It doesn't make sense to be right or wrong, but I have to say that Rose is great. At the end, it is well explained that the union of two people is not one plus one equals two, but half plus half equals a whole.

Life is short and limited, let alone life, so when you live, you must enjoy it in time. Plan your life well. It turned out to be a story about dreams, family, education, and growing up.

Fences quotes

  • Troy: Now you tell me who you ever heard of gonna pull their own teeth with a pair of rusty pliers?

Bono: They're old folks. My granddaddy used to pull his teeth with pliers. They ain't had no dentists for colored folk back then.

Troy: Well, get clean pliers. You understand? Clean pliers.

  • Rose: I took all my feelings, my wants and needs and dreams, and I buried them inside you. I planted a seed and watched and prayed over it. I planted myself inside you and waited to bloom! And it didn't take me no 18 years to realize the soil was hard and rocky, and it wasn't never gonna bloom!
