In "The Wrath of Man", Gary is uncharacteristically, with no montages, no coincidence narratives, and a true dark story of a criminal tycoon who seeks revenge for his son. This change reminds me of a director in China, Ning Hao, and Ning Hao's no-man's land gives me the same feeling. In the same way, after the directors gave up the narrative skills they were good at, the two transformative works were both bright spots for me, but overall disappointing.
Speaking of "Human Wrath" alone, Guy Ritchie tried to create a black revenge blockbuster like "Quick Pursuit", and adopted a more dark and realistic movie style to give the movie its own unique temperament. The movie is divided into four separate parts, each part has its own subtitle, and I will also analyze it separately from this four-part structure.
part.1 . As the first part after the official start of the film, the director focused the story on the protagonist played by Jason Statham. It seemed that he was just an ordinary new employee of the money transport insurance company. The common sense event unfolded, the mysteries surrounding him became more and more, and the audience's expectations also grew. This is also a very classic way of character building, changing a character from familiar to unknown, thus evoking the audience's interest in watching movies. Finally, at the end of the clip, the character identity is revealed through the side description of the fbi police. This part is very exciting. Through flashbacks and suspense, the audience's heart is tied to the protagonist alone, and they look forward to the development of the story.
part.2 . This part is actually the beginning of the story. At this time, the audience has enough understanding of the character and behavioral characteristics of the protagonist, so that the director can unfold the story more quickly in this part. The most important thing about the encounter between the protagonist and his son is to tell the reason for the incident on the one hand, and to establish the rationality of revenge and build an emotional foundation for the audience's empathy on the other hand. As a gang eldest brother, in order to avenge his son, it is natural to first use his own means to conduct a search. There is a montage on this part, which shows the long search in a short period of time. In this matter, the fierceness of the protagonist's actions and the bloody search scenes also established the black temperament of the whole film on the basis of shaping the characters. In the end, the long search was fruitless, and the subordinate said that the long search would only expand the problem and lead the story back to part.1.
Part.3 part.4 . The final climactic battle and the ending. This part is the most disappointing part of the film. The director in front has used various methods to raise the audience's expectation of revenge to the highest level. Who knows that the powerful protagonist in front of me is a little misfiring. From the beginning of the robbery, he has been temporarily offline from the story. ". Although the death of the security company personnel in this part is a "need" for the film's black temperament, this setting also makes the audience look forward to the final "sweet revenge". It is under this series of expectations that the final "realistic" war was particularly disappointing.
After watching the whole movie, it is still very good objectively, especially in the movie market that has become extremely poor due to the epidemic this year. The director obviously wanted to make a more serious noir crime film, but the protagonist was too strong in the first half of the film, and the omnipotent character setting and the ending seemed abrupt on both sides. Maybe for Guy Ritchie, he is indeed a bit unaccustomed to taking the serious route, and maybe it would be more appropriate to "remain old".
