Four stars because I love Vivien Leigh, I think I'll break down if I watch it again.
Probably because I'm also a bit idealistic, so some of the comments will be extreme.
They let me take a streetcar called Desire, transfer to Cemetery, ride six blocks and get off on Paradise Road.
So Blanche took her desire to be loved and set foot on the cemetery - a place with Stanley. I really hate Stanley, I think he's very macho, and it's him who pushes Blanche to the graveyard. He would be like the domestic abuser in the news now, after beating his wife, he dared to lick his face and beg for forgiveness. When he heard that Blanche lost Belle Reve, he forced out the so-called Napoleonic Code to fight for his own interests. When he heard that Mitch was going to marry Blanche, he mercilessly told him Blanche's secret. Even when Stella was giving birth, she was raped. The broken mirror broke my heart too.
Deliberate cruelty is unforgivable.
In comparison, Stella is an angel. She always protects Blanche's fantasy world, she protects her from being hurt. Stella for stars. Unfortunately, the light from this star is too weak to resist Stanley, the orangutan.
I feel so bad for Blanche, she's just mentally ill. She thinks Allen committed suicide because of her words, but baby, it's not all your fault, he lied to you first. "Death is opposed to desire." So in order to escape her fear, socializing with strangers became a way for her to fill the emptiness in her heart and seek protection. In order to escape the deep pain, she paralyzed herself in fantasy and weaved a wonderful dream for people.
But why! ! Is he going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back? Deprive her of her right to escape reality and deceive herself?
The line can be straight, the road can also be straight, but the human heart can also be?
I think going mentally ill is a relief, avoiding deliberate cruelty and welcoming the kindness of strangers, so is this the way to heaven?
