Reasoning methods are divided into: deduction and inductive
deduction
. This formulaic reasoning method often appears in classic detective novels. It is based on indisputable facts. The principle is: if the premise is correct, then the conclusion must be correct.
Induction:
Induction is a method of reasoning based on assumptions, frequently used by Watson and the police in Sherlock Holmes' stories, in which the conclusion drawn is merely a consequence of a premise that may be inferred, not necessarily.
Abductive reasoning:
Abductive reasoning, also known as "best explanation reasoning", when there are multiple explanations for one thing. Sherlock Holmes often used this line of reasoning.
