Silent

I originally thought that this film should only have a market in Catholic countries, but I was wrong, in fact, it has more resonance in non-Catholic countries. It is about the persecution of Western missionaries and the experiences of believers when they preached in Japan. It begs the question, how can we really help believers in distress? Blindly hiding, being devout, resisting, and even sacrificing one's own life are useless. It is futile for the disadvantaged to do so under the power, it is just endless sacrifice of their lives. It was obvious to everyone that Father Ferreira did not abandon the Church, but was just an expedient measure of last resort.

I personally think that what he did is right. After witnessing countless lives being destroyed, he is not afraid of death. Only immortality can save the lives of other believers. Even if he is misunderstood by the world, what is it? Isn't that the essence of life-saving life in Christ Jesus?

At the beginning, many people may think that Jijirou is a bad person, too ungodly, greedy for life and fear of death, but in the end, he is indeed the one who enlightened Father Rodriguez. There is a very interesting dialogue in the movie, when a pair of Japanese devout believers said to Father Rodriguez: "We are not afraid of death, can't we go to heaven if we die? There will be no fear, no hunger, right?" "Father is so hesitant, so hesitant. Rather than being so ignorant, Jijirou is more aware of current affairs. Of course, it is estimated that people in that era were relatively simple. In today's world, of course, saving his life is more important than anything else. And alive, even if he is as stubborn as the two priests in the film, he can still secretly do something to protect the believers. Of course, those devout believers and sacrificed missionaries like Moji are still very worthy of respect.

This film is very long, 2 hours and 40 minutes. Many times the dialogues of the characters in the play are very quiet, and many people may find it boring, but this is a good film with a lot of depth. Please be patient and watch it. .

Lao Ma is worthy of the film master of this era. He can shoot my most biologically disgusting religious fanatic theme so elegantly and solemnly, just like a lens textbook. A thousand words are not as good as silence, and faith does not need to be proclaimed. Garfield was really tired out of this film 555...

The cinematic skill angle is impeccable. But the story is too long and the perspective is arrogant, and the atheists are even more confused, and the whole person is silent. The male protagonist searches for the voice of God in the painful experience, and finally finds that the voice is silent, and his words and deeds all reflect the will of God. The interesting thing is that the whole experience coincides with the Buddhist thought mentioned in the movie, the so-called people can be sublimated and become Buddhas after being tested. I don't know if it was intentional

Silence quotes

  • [first lines]

Ferreira: [narrating] 1633. Pax Christi. Praised be God. Although for us there is little peace in this land now. I never knew Japan when it was a country of light, but I have never known it to be as dark as it is now. All our progress has ended in new persecution, new repression, new suffering. They use ladles filled with holes so the drops would come out slowly, and the pain would be prolonged. Each small splash of the water was like a burning coal. The Governor of Nagasaki took four friars, and one of our own society to Unsen. There are hotsprings there. The Japanese call them "hells," partly I think, in mockery. And partly, I must tell you, in truth.

[command is given and the captives are untied]

Ferreira: The officials told our Padres to abandon God and the gospel of his love. But they not only refused to apostatize, they asked to be tortured so they could demonstrate the strength of their faith and the presence of God within them. Some remained on the mountain for 33 days. The story of their courage gives hope to those of us priests who remain here in secret. We will not abandon our hidden Christians who live in fear. We only grow stronger in his love.

  • Inoue: They can continue to be Christian. You may take some satisfaction in that. Because the roots are cut.

Rodrigues: Nothing grows in a swamp.
