Behind the city, the lightness of life

Society always has many sides, because people have many sides.

Behind the high-sounding and bizarre cities, there are always gloomy and dirty corners. The marginalized people in the city live a life of misery and poverty. That kind of life is like, knowing that there is a cockroach crawling on moldy bread, but having to swallow the bread as if it were a blind eye. Often the more backward the economy is, the more honest the people are. Money can always make people throw away something. For example, faith, kindness, and gratitude.

Fall is like a road of no return, even if there are still beautiful dreams. Death can be as light as a feather. For the world, the meaning of the individual is always small. But people always have to find the meaning of the world to themselves in life. This weight depends on the difference in the value of life that you yearn for in the depths of your heart. Some people want to get rich, some people want to be an official, some people want to travel, or to find some other meaning.

After survival, should you insist on that seemingly nihilistic dignity? Should one hold on to a certain belief in life? People are happy because they can keep running in the direction they want. Even if you want to be a cowboy, or to see the sun and beaches of Florida, and bikini beauties. Because this is also a kind of dream.

Without dreams, even if you are dressed in brocade and food, you will become more and more empty and unable to extricate yourself. Even if you die in the longing journey, it is much better than sitting in prison and waiting for death.

While people are looking for material wealth like headless flies, have they forgotten the beauty of building their own spiritual world? The lightness of life is another heavy pressure that makes people unable to breathe.

During social transformation, people are always at a loss. At any time, one cannot forget what should not be forgotten.

In this film, there are some negative things about the appearance of society, whether it is indifference of human feelings, deception and injury between people, or some social problems derived from it, they are all secondary. The important thing is that after a small deception in the form of a mere formality, it is possible to go deeper into the development of something deeply human. This isn't just a story about a homeless man scamming a male prostitute out of $20 in brokerage fees. Male prostitutes are a metaphor for the dark side of the American economy that was close to reality at that time. The homeless, just like the American dream at the beginning, finally shattered halfway.

No one wants to die like that, but the helplessness of the person involved will never be understood by bystanders. Faced with the sense of powerlessness in reality, he struggled but still had to bear it silently. It was the misfortune of their fate, and the misfortune that outsiders could not help. People can only survive and live by their own strength. Find that power, and don't sink in secretly.

Midnight Cowboy quotes

  • Joe Buck: I like the way I look. Makes me feel good, it does. And women like me, goddammit. Hell, the only one thing I ever been good for is lovin'. Women go crazy for me, that's a really true fact! Ratso, hell! Crazy Annie they had to send her away!

Ratso Rizzo: Then, how come you ain't scored once the whole time you been in New York?

  • [At the gravesite of his father]

Ratso Rizzo: He was even dumber than you. He couldn't even write his own name. "X," that's what it ought to say on that goddamn headstone, one big lousy "X". Just like our dump. Condemned by order of City Hall.
