Chic and cute Vada

The timing of the movie is too important. If I watched this movie when I was a teenager, I guess I would imitate Vada immediately. I have always liked this chic, tomboy-like style, and I want to be like this myself. But my living environment is too different from Vada's. Why do you always feel that American children are more chic than Chinese? It may be because many of them don't have to live in tall buildings. As soon as they go out, there is a vast world.

Vada is so cute. Without her mother, she is also very strong, and she is not as sentimental as a girl of that age (are children in the United States also sentimental, haha, I can't judge it anymore). She always feels that she is ill or terminally ill, and often goes to the hospital to "harass" the doctor. At that time, I always felt that I had something undetectable (sometimes now), but I never had the courage to say it, let alone go to the hospital.

She is actually quite sensitive. When she knew that Shelly was going to be her stepmother, she showed a series of "resistance". Seeing that she kept hitting S in the playground, I was really angry. This kid is too much. Think about it because we have an all-powerful perspective and know that S will be good to her, so we think so. But if you are in the position of V, I don't know what will happen. Moreover, I always feel that when I watch a movie, I rarely experience the feelings of the characters in the movie. I want to see a happy ending, so I hope V and S get along well, completely ignoring the difficulties that may arise in this process. Even if S becomes the stepmother of V, will there be a gap between them? Even mothers and daughters are inevitable. Okay, I thought a little bit, so I should go to the second one.

V is lucky because she has a good friend Thomas J. T is so cute, both in appearance and behavior. He can always comfort V, play with her, take risks together, and "run away from home" together. Having such a loyal friend is really something to be met but not to ask for. But how can the director bear to let T die? Is it just for V to grow? I have to say that this price is a bit high.

V's teacher is also very good. He was very enthusiastic to help V and teach her to write poems. He didn't get any impatient with her because she was a child, no wonder V liked him, haha.

This kind of movies with boys and girls as the main characters always has a special charm, perhaps because of their innocence, simplicity, or their own nostalgia for the past life. Just like "Little Sunshine Beauty", it also makes people feel warm.

My Girl quotes

  • Thomas J. Sennett: What do you think it's like?

    Vada Sultenfuss: What?

    Thomas J. Sennett: Heaven.

Vada Sultenfuss: I think... everybody gets their own white horse and all they do is ride them and eat marshmallows all day. And everybody's best friends with everybody else. When you play sports, there's no teams, so nobody gets picked last.

Thomas J. Sennett: But what if you're afraid to ride horses?

Vada Sultenfuss: Doesn't matter 'cause they're not regular horses. They've got wings. And it's no big deal if you fall 'cause you'll just land in a cloud.

  • Vada: 'Ode to Ice Cream' by Vada Sultenfuss. I like ice cream a whole lot/It tastes good on days that are hot/On a cone or in a dish/This will be my only wish/Vanilla, chocolate, rocky road/Even with pie, a la mode.
