First, it's a myth. Those who can accept the exaggeration of Journey to the West, don't complain that this movie is too exaggerated, the brain hole looks super cool!
Second, it's okay to be open-minded, but use it in ideas. This film is on point. A good shot is a good shot.
In this film, I see the shadow of China's big production films, such as many films by Zhang Yimou. However, it is not enough to just have a big production, but also have a self-consistent logic and a deep cultural background. The cultural heritage does not mean that if I can tell you a story through a movie and tell you a truth, it will be a success. Wouldn't it be too thin for a movie to tell only one truth? This is the reason why many big-budget movies in China are so popular.
As for the two works of Baahubali, I have seen various aspects of Indian religion from them. The characters in the story are rich in layers. Even positive characters make mistakes. Even the villain can have the power of the gods and gods. But what is the difference between the pros and cons? The manifestation of benevolence, the manifestation of wisdom, and the withdrawal of all aspects are not the reaction of a single event, but the accumulation of many events. Indian movies are indeed slow, but this movie is slow and not procrastinating, and it will not repeat the same line a thousand times, but because it wants to express every aspect, the content is so rich that it overflows. The problem with many Chinese movies that are so-called big productions is often the lack of content, which is too empty but has to last for 120 minutes. The evidence and strength to support the theme are too thin, and in the end, only the special effects are left, so it seems ridiculous.
I give this film full marks, not because it has no shortcomings, but because it is so sufficient in terms of storytelling logic, mature film special effects, and the completeness and fullness of the story, sincerity is slow. Such a film, no matter which country it is released from, should be respected.
I have always believed that the Chinese, as a nation and country with countless myths, should be able to more easily understand the myth of our neighbor. Our fairies can fly, the white snake can transform into a human, the Monkey King can transform into seventy-two, and the swordsman of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon can step on bamboo and dance his sword in the bamboo forest. Bamboo and coconut trees bouncing into high walls?
This film isn't teaching us how to be human, it's just telling us a story. The beliefs people have in the story are indeed outdated in today's society. For example, slaves are slaves for life, which are very different from nobles. For example, my mother is always right and I will not go against her wishes. But the director is not advocating these values, he is just narrating, slaves can be loyal and brave, and mothers can be deceived and make mistakes. Perhaps the only thing the director can call propaganda is that everything has a cause and effect.
It is true that some of the brain holes that exploded made people laugh, "It's really an open-minded nation!" It often becomes my emotion, but I still like the story of this movie, with tears in laughter and moving.
