Frankenstein is a monster created by Dr. Frankenstein from dead in scientific experiments. As he himself said, this is a "hell" experiment, a blasphemy against God, and a curse. Therefore, he has been avoiding seeing Frankenstein that he made by himself. On the other hand, as a scientist, Dr. Frankenstein's enthusiasm for science and the instinctive curiosity of life creation drove him to do this "hell" experiment. Therefore, when his teacher approached him for cooperation, he hesitated but accepted (although he later refused to cooperate and his teacher had to use Frankenstein to threaten him to continue the experiment). Here is actually a question that the director wants to express: Is it right to use science to create life? However, the director’s attitude in the movie is also very vague. Although Frankenstein’s last line "You stay, you and I belong to death" seems to express the director’s position, but the director finally designed a bridge for Frankenstein to let Dr. Coupled with the role of Frankenstein and the old man in the thatched cottage, it seems that the director is very sympathetic to Frankenstein, making it difficult for the audience to have a sense of disgust and even sympathy for Frankenstein, thus weakening the original position.
Regarding the character of Frankenstein, a monster produced by experimentation has all the characteristics of a human, except for a slight difference in appearance. Like human beings, he yearns for recognition, longs for friends, and hates loneliness. I think the scene of Frankenstein and the old man in the thatched cottage is the highlight of the whole film. Putting a blind old man who lives alone on the edge of the city and Frankenstein, who is not recognized but also lonely, together, the two people can have a heart. In communication with the heart, when the old man held Frankenstein's hand and prayed to God, Frankenstein also shed tears. However, happiness is short-lived, and Frankenstein is destined not to belong to this world. After he was hurt again and again by humans, he gave up the possibility of becoming friends with humans. Instead, he followed the old professor's advice and recreated a female Frankenstein to accompany him. After some setbacks (even killing an innocent woman in the middle and taking her heart to complete the experiment), he finally completed his dream partner. But even this same monster still hates him. "She's cruel to me, just like everyone else!" he repeated over and over again. He finally understood that he was "of death". He let go of Dr. Frankenstein who had been awakened, and left the old professor who was still obsessed with life testing, and left this world that shouldn't belong to him together.
In this era that has been occupied by rationalism, sometimes perhaps we should also be rarely confused, fearing life and fearing death.
