After watching Marco Polo, I felt that Kublai Khan was like Henry VIII in his later years. Although the entire TV series was played in a Mongolian court drama, it was actually a European court drama. It was just dressed in East Asian, Mongolian, and Chinese clothes, with words and deeds. The manners and discussions about state affairs are almost European style. What makes me most unbearable is that the enthronement of the Southern Song emperor is not the crowning of the king, and there is no baptism ceremony.
And finally, the Mongolian army's attack on Xiangyang was simply a simplified version of Turkey's attack on Constantinople in 1453. It was nothing new and the scene was far worse.
After watching the first season, I wanted to complain about it, spend less money to pat the body, and spend more time thinking about understanding East Asia, not just costumes, wrestling, Mongolian musical instruments and dance.
