The most important thing in Taipei

The company’s annual tour includes Taipei Line and Huangshan Line. I chose the Taipei Line. I did not expect that the Taipei Guild in early December will fulfill one of my wishes.
About a week before departure, I saw on Chen Shanni’s Weibo that she said "Magic Moonlight" would be released in Taipei. The Weibo date is October 29, so I thought maybe it might not be offline when I go to Taipei, maybe I can check it out.
I feel a little excited to think about it! Because he is Woody Allen, "Magic Moonlight" is his new movie this year. He has just passed the age of 80 and has made more than 40 films so far. I watched 12 works during my college years, most of which were his later works, and some have seen them two or three times, such as "Midnight Paris", "Sports Point" and "Anne Hall". Unfortunately, I have never watched his movie in a theater, because the mainland has never introduced it. He is already 80 years old. Although he always ridicules that he will continue to make films and live to be 100 years old, he has to admit that one of his future works will be one, because for an 80-year-old person, You don't know when he will suddenly be gone. And I, a person who claims to love movies and his works, never went to the theater to contribute a ticket for him.

I always hope to have such an opportunity.

But the fact is, I'm thinking that in the next five years I probably won't have the opportunity to watch his films in the United States or other countries where his films are shown. Even if he had the opportunity to go there, his movie might not be showing at exactly that time. So watching "Magic Moonlight" has become the most important thing to come to Taipei, because this is most likely the first and last time I watched his movie in a theater.

The third day I arrived in Taipei was free time, a day I looked forward to. Going to see "Magic Moonlight" became the only important thing that day. Since it may have already been offline, my mental preparation is that even if I travel all over Taipei, as long as there is one theater showing, I will go to see it. So I left the brigade and acted alone.
There happened to be a cinema downstairs in the hotel where I was staying. The aunt who sells tickets at the window is about 40 years old. She is very literate. When answering the phone, she will tell the other party what the movie is about. I asked her if she had "Magic Moonlight" today. Maybe the mainland and the translation there are different. She didn't know which movie I was talking about. I had to tell her the English name of the movie. After she understood it, she said that the movie was offline. I didn't give up and asked her if there were other theaters showing. She picked up the iPad and checked it for me, and said that the Eslite Cinema was still showing. I was pleasantly surprised and asked her how to get to the Eslite Cinema. The spectators who lined up to buy tickets immediately told me to take the MRT to the city hall station. Thanks to her, I took the MRT to the Eslite Xinyi store, which is the nearest to the city hall station, but the clerk told me that their movie theater was in the Songshan store. She helped me check the release time, and there was only one at 6 o'clock in the afternoon, and only Songshan Eslite Cinema was still showing in Taipei. After asking for the route, I ran to the Songshan Eslite Store and bought a ticket for six in the afternoon. Suddenly, I felt at ease. I was so happy that I felt no surprise. A dream was about to come true.
After buying the tickets, it will take six hours for the movie to start. I found a lot of surprises when I came out of the theater. Songshan Cultural and Creative Park is holding a creative exhibition called "Original Base Festival". I ran to see the exhibition. With the time spent visiting the Eslite Bookstore and Record Store, six hours is not enough. use. Suddenly I thought of studying in Taipei for two years.
Wait until six o'clock to enter the theater for fear of accidents, such as the projectionist misplaced the movie or something. The movie-watching experience was very good. There were only about 20 people in the entire theater, with men and women in the majority. There were also one or two couples, and everyone was sitting in the back three rows. At this time, people who can still watch this movie are probably the director’s true fans, so when we saw the director’s favorite Windsor font (he used this font in 38 movies), we had to know it. Laughed. Light comedy, beautiful scenery in the south of France, typical pessimism, consistent humor, we are all familiar with his laughter, so everyone is very relaxed and happy. When the ending song sounded, some people sat and refused to leave.

This is not his best work, it can even be regarded as his middle-to-lower work, but I still give it five stars. Because this process is so perfect.

That day also became the Perfect Day of my trip to Taipei!

Magic in the Moonlight quotes

  • Stanley: The comparison makes me laugh! Olivia is a person of accomplishment and charm. Sophie's a street finagler who makes her way living off one bit of hokum to the next.

Aunt Vanessa: Well, I don't see how you can compare the two.

Stanley: Well, don't put ideas into my head!

Aunt Vanessa: Well, far be it from me!

Stanley: Of course, she does come from dire circumstances. I mean, it's very easy to be judgmental about people who are born into circumstances less fortunate than one's own.

Aunt Vanessa: Well, life is harsh. One must do what one must to survive.

Stanley: Well put. And people do sometimes make the wrong choices, which they regret, even though no serious harm was done.

Aunt Vanessa: Which of us has not made some blunders in life?

Stanley: And there is a rather appealing quality about Sophie. Despite her disgusting behaviour.

Aunt Vanessa: Yes, her smile is rather winning. Of course, it depends how much value you put on the purely physical.

Stanley: Well, no, I... I, for one, esteem the higher virtues.

Aunt Vanessa: Hmm... Beauty of the soul...

Stanley: Although her eyes are rather pleasant to look into. And that she can be amusing, under the right circumstances.

Aunt Vanessa: Oh, but Olivia is an educated, cultivated woman. One that befits a man of your artistic genius.

Stanley: Yes, now, my genius must be factored in. On paper, there's really no reason to prefer Sophie to Olivia.

Aunt Vanessa: Well, I would say the opposite.

Stanley: ...And so your, your suggestion that I, I be honest with Olivia and tell her that as irrational as it seems, I've fallen in love with, with Sophie - that's a preposterous notion.

    Aunt Vanessa: It's lunacy.

Stanley: ...Yet I can't help feeling that...

Aunt Vanessa: ...That you love Sophie. Yes, I understand. You're puzzled and bewildered; because your foolish logic tells you that you should love Olivia.

    Stanley: Foolish logic?

Aunt Vanessa: And yet, how little that logic means when placed next to Sophie's smile...

    Stanley: What are you saying?

Aunt Vanessa: ...That the world may or may not be without purpose, but it's not totally without some kind of magic.

Stanley: ...I have irrational positive feelings for Sophie Baker. It's like witnessing a trick I can't figure out.
