It is not so much a science fiction movie as it is about the classic motif of humanism: what is human?
Element one: life and death. "One-dimensional man" can characterize the fact that man is born to death. Subject consciousness originates from the formation of embryos and acquires a corresponding sense of reality after birth. Only discussing death has ultimate meaning. All individuals are drawn towards the moment of death, welcoming the abrupt end of life - this is the law of nature. Interestingly, Andrew's transition from a state of near-immortality to a finite existence makes "finite" acquire a cultural meaning. At the first human identity inquiries, there was a debate around the artificiality of organs. When the mother's organ fails, the artificial organ after replacement does not deny the identity of "human". When we replace a person's body with artificial organs bit by bit, as Qian Zhongshu Gudui argued, how many grains of millet are taken away, will Gudui noticeably feel less? After what percentage of people have been replaced, can they not be called people? Can Putnam's Brain in a Vat see him as a human?
Element two: creativity. When Hegel discussed the theory of recognition, he said that slaves will do everything possible to create exquisite handicrafts to gain the recognition of their masters. We do not debate the criterion of creativity, that is, in what sense something embodies creativity. Rather, it focuses on the relationship between creation and human beings, in other words, in what sense creation achieves human beings. Humans use tools, methods and means to change the physical characteristics of things on the earth, so that they acquire aesthetic attributes, practical functions, and ethical values, making the blue planet special and human civilization special. Horse carvings, clocks, wooden houses, these things decorate nature and make people.
The third element: food color. This is the least "human" human characteristic. All life, Jiji's whole life, pursues nothing but sustenance and reproduction. It is difficult to say what kind of special experience people get when eating sex, which is different from other creatures, but the daily life of eating men and women still moves every good man and woman. Schopenhauer said that pain is unfulfilled desire, and boredom is fulfilled desire. But we know that happiness, sadness, surprise, and emotion beyond this have never dimmed this apparent world. Andrew gets rid of the monotony of charging, finds appetite, and experiences the love of men and women, even if it disappears one day, we are only about what we have now - returning to "limitation".
Element 4: Be free or die. I heard a Kant researcher say that Western civilization pursues "freedom" because freedom is the foundation of human existence, and freedom is human beings. But Chinese does not have a word that can explain the word freedom. If the words are too complicated, press the table.
