It tells the story of Andrew, a robot bought by a rich man to be a housekeeper. Because he accidentally possesses human aesthetics and emotions, the rich teach him to read books and give him lessons, so that he can understand the unique parts of life and people. Andrew started to make a lot of money by playing part of his artistic talent, giving all his savings to the rich to buy freedom and dignity.

He left the rich man's house, built a house by himself, and lived alone for 16 years until the rich man died. For the first time, he felt loneliness and sadness, as well as the loss of his own immortality and human beings. He began to look for robots with the same emotions and life consciousness as him, but after 20 years, he could not find a companion like him. Just when he was about to give up, he met the doctor who could modify him.

Gradually he acquired the appearance of a human being, the organs of a human being, the nervous system of a human being, tears of a human being, and even the love of a human being. He felt that he was a real human being, so he went to court many times to ask the authority to admit that he was a real person. A person, until he passed away, his wish was truly realized.

The root of human suffering is because of emotions and desires, so many people born in the world hope that they can cultivate to be free from emotions and desires. A robot without emotions is equal to no spirit, only the body lives. Although Andrew's body belongs to a robot, he has human emotions and yearning for life and love, and he has a spiritual pursuit. When the people around him die one by one, his loneliness and pain make him rather give up immortality, choose to die with the people he loves, and become a mortal person. Even if he didn't see with his own eyes that he was judged to be the longest-lived human being, he walked with peace of mind. Perhaps for a dying person, his own certainty is the most important thing.

On the other hand, many people do not have the pursuit of love and spirituality. They live like robots and live in loneliness.

A real person can enjoy life and love, and through his own efforts and his talents, he can find the purpose of this world and become a life with flesh and blood, laughter, tears and love!

Bicentennial Man quotes

  • Andrew Martin: May one, sir? Is now a good time?

'Ma'am' Martin: What? A good time for what?

Andrew Martin: Last night, Sir taught...

Sir: No, no, no, don't blame me Andrew. Just... go ahead.

    Andrew Martin: Thank you sir

Andrew Martin: [Very fast] Two cannibals were eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "Does this taste funny to you?" How do you make a hanky dance? Put a little boogie in it! What is a brunette between two blondes? A translator! Do you know why blind people don't like to sky-dive? It scares their dogs! A man with demensia is driving on the freeway. His wife calls him on the mobile phone and says "Sweetheart, I heard there's someone driving the wrong way on the freeway." He says "One? There's hundreds!" What's silent and smells like worms? Bird farts. It must have been an engineer who designed the human body. Who else would put a waste processing plant next to a recreation area? A woman goes into a doctor's office, and the doctor says "Do you mind if I numb your breasts?" "Not at all." *makes 'motor-boating' noise. "Num-num-num-num."

Andrew Martin: [Family chuckles] One did it sir!

Sir: Andrew, it was fine, but we might want to talk about appropriatness and um, and timing.

    Andrew Martin: It's ten-fifteen sir.

    [Family laughs hysterically]

  • Galatea: Sucks to be you!
