Han River Monster

After watching the movie, Tian Liuliu and I were shivering in the cold wind. The main reason was not the cold, but the fear. I regret dragging 66 to watch such a film, and I don't know if I fell asleep when I got home.
Monsters, the Hollywood stunt team did their homework and brought a wet, slippery, behemoth with a big mouth and a nimble tail to life. The flaws, I really didn't see it. The same brilliant special effects, used on the King Kong rushing and barking along Fifth Avenue in New York, or on the monsters in black covering the mountains and fields of "The Lord of the Rings", will only make people sigh that they are really done like Ah and so on, instead of being covered for a while Trembling. Because you know, they don't know how many dimensions they are separated from you, and imagination cannot become reality. It really doesn't work. At the last minute, there will be Superman or 007 shouting slogans to save the earth. Hollywood formulas don't work here.
On a sunny afternoon, the banks of the river are full of ordinary people relaxing, picnicking, and walking. The monster just jumped out of the water without warning, rampaged, and ravaged shamelessly. The terrified people fled, unable to resist. There are no superheroes, not even a passing patrolman. People can only fight it with their flesh and blood...
In the center of the whirlpool is an ordinary family who can no longer be ordinary, with a small shop by the riverside. To make a living, a wordy, sophisticated old man, a eldest brother whose intelligence is slightly lower than ordinary people, an archer's sister who is slow to do everything, and an angry young brother who has nothing to do after graduating from college. I thought the little granddaughter who was swept away was dead, but unexpectedly, she received a call for help from the girl. He was caught in the mouth by the monster and left a breath, but was thrown into the sewer to escape. The helpless and humble people had no way to ask for help. The gods in the yamen thought they were listening to a joke, so they had to flee the hospital in a hurry and fight with shotguns.
Perhaps it is the bitterness and helplessness of ordinary people that makes the story seem so close to us, so close to our fingertips. They are humble, but brave. There was only one bullet left and the uncle who still raised his gun at the monster, his eyes were firm and calm. When he fired the gun, he found that it was just an empty gun. Facing the monster that was in front of him and was about to pounce, he turned around and waved calmly at the children. His expression was as usual, but it made us spectators sigh. A 12-year-old girl, in order to rescue her little brother who was in distress, gritted her teeth and stepped on the monster's body in an attempt to escape. And the younger sister who finally no longer hesitated at the critical moment and shot the monster with one arrow... This kind of bravery makes them shine brightly.
But the story is not all about tension and depression. The four adults who initially thought their little granddaughter was dead cried in the mourning hall, causing reporters to rush to take pictures. From the aerial view of the scene, several adults were rolling around on the ground like children, making people laugh out loud, but feel uncomfortable and want to cry. There are also slow sisters who are still in a hurry and can't get into the car when they are fleeing, the younger brother is thrown on the ground when the last torch is thrown by the monster full of gasoline, and at the end of the movie, the four wanted The poster was put up at home solemnly... I admire the director's ability to create humor in such an atmosphere, even though the humor seems to be a gloomy green on a gray drawing board, and it is a mess of sadness.
At the end of the story, the little daughter was finally taken out by the monster again. When she was rescued from the monster's mouth, she had stopped breathing. I'd much rather believe that it wasn't the monster, but the powerful disinfectant in the air that caused the little girl's death. To eliminate the deadly virus that the government thought the monster was carrying. The funny thing is that viruses don't actually exist. All human beings are victims, including monsters - products stimulated by the pollutants emitted by humans. Human beings have recklessly changed the world, and one day they will be met with such revenge.
After watching the movie and walking home, I felt that the monster was beside me, and I didn’t know when it would jump out.

Feng Junhao subverts Hollywood's traditional monster-themed disaster films. Family affection, political satire, social criticism and black humor alternately appear, making people addicted to watching. Song Kang-ho and Bae Doo-na's acting skills are praised, and the soundtrack is enough. With the absence of the lone hero, the slow-motion preparations are only exchanged for hilarious and poignant mistakes. The powerlessness of the little people is in stark contrast to the fragility and the indifference of the government. (8.0/10)

The Host quotes

  • Park Hie-bong: I received a complaint from Mat Number 4. Their squid had only nine legs. Did you eat one?

    Park Gang-Du: No.

Park Hie-bong: Don't deny it. Why touch other people's things? Think of it from the customer's perspective. A squid. The torso tastes delicious, but the legs, especially the longest one, has something special, right?

[He pulls a half eaten squid leg out of the pocket of Gang-du's hoodie]

Park Hie-bong: [Thrusting a tray into his son's arms] Take this to Mat Number 4. Tell them it's on the house.

  • Park Nam-il: [grabbing a grieving Gang-du by the arm] So you screwed up, huh? I heard everything. You grabbed some other girl's hand?

[He claws at his brother's head]

Park Nam-il: You left Hyun-seo on the ground?

[He takes another swipe at Gang-du but Hie-bong holds him back]

Park Nam-il: Your own daughter? You call yourself a fucking father?

[as he says this he manages to kick Gang-du]

Park Nam-il: You son of a bitch!

Park Gang-Du: [bawling] I thought it was Hyun-seo's hand!
