In all film introductions, "Monster of the Han River" is defined as a thriller disaster film, or even a science fiction film. It sounds as if the protagonist of the film should be the mutant monster. The beginning of the film is also based on the tone of the horror film: rainy weather, someone jumped into the Han River to commit suicide, and cursed that your good days are over. . However, the first shot after the title of the film is very colorful. A sleepy middle-aged man is lying on the brightly-colored goods of the small shop - for a moment, people have the feeling that this is an ordinary Korean comedy.
The monster that appeared soon after is said to be modeled by Weta Workshop, which has produced "Lord of the Rings" and "King Kong", while the computer effects are
completed by the team that created the "Harry Potter" series. Although the monster production lineup is strong, the monsters born in Hollywood still carry traces of many computer special effects, plus the always cheerful background music, it is difficult to make people feel scary. And this is still a low-level monster with no self-thinking and no intelligence. At the end of the plot, this monster did not show the slightest personality, but just stiffly performed its leaping movements until it completed its vase task.
Of course, Bong Joon-ho, who has directed "Memories of Murder", will not let the film stay on such a mentally retarded monster. His purpose is actually to introduce the real monster in society-indifferent people. When Qiangdou received a call from Xuan Rui, who had survived after being robbed by monsters, the doctors, police, and patients all rudely concluded that there was something wrong with Qiangdou's spirit. What they worried about was not where the monster was, but whether they would contract the virus.
Negligible humor Unnegligible affection
In the film, disinfectant is sprayed everywhere, patients are isolated, and everyone wears a mask. It is similar to the situation when SARS was raging, but the humor in it is slightly exaggerated. Even when everyone was paying homage to their relatives in the mourning hall, the director also arranged for the Qiangdou family to stage a farce-like crying scene. Grandpa actually had such a line: "Xuanrui, thank you so much, let us The family is reunited here." When horror films are not scary, the deliberate humor of these directors is like small episodes, adjusting the audience's easy to slack nerves from time to time.
Contrary to the routine of ordinary heroes defeating monsters to save the world, the hero of this film, Qiangdou, has an average appearance, and definitely does not belong to the "Gao Daquan" type. He achieves nothing, is greedy and lethargic, and even lacks wisdom. But when his daughter was robbed by monsters, Han and Silly Qiangdou became the most heroic father. Even though a part of his brain was cut off, he still remembered saving his daughter with all his heart.
Xuan Rui's grandfather, uncle, and aunt were also fully involved in the rescue of Xuan Rui just like Qiangdou. They had no advanced weapons, no well-equipped means of transportation, or even prepared dry food, so they walked into the gloomy and damp sewers. In the face of powerful monsters, not to mention rescuing Xuan Rui, even finding her is a very difficult task.
At this point in the film, warm scenes appeared again and again: the family gathered in the RV to eat instant noodles, Xuan Rui appeared in a trance, and the warm tones immediately covered the entire scene. Next, even the scene where the grandfather was killed by the monster was dyed with a warm tone. The grandfather who took over the rifle in his son's hand found that the bullet was gone when he pulled the trigger, and then turned around and waved his hand to let his son run away. The old drama Gubian Xifeng performed incisively and vividly.
Regardless of whether there are any regrets in the final outcome, grandpa, father, uncle, and aunt have devoted all their efforts. In the confrontation with all kinds of monsters, family will always be the victor.
