The dissident's death conspiracy

At first I thought it was a suspense movie, but I didn't think about it, but it also brought philosophy and politics. I don't have a clear inclination on whether to abolish the death penalty. I don't know much about Foucault and Socrates. I don't understand desire, fantasy, sacrifice, etc . All I saw was the death tale of a dissident.
It should be said that the film is not bad overall, the rhythm is tight and exciting, and the reversal at the end also has a certain degree of drama. It is a passing suspense film. Kevin Spacey and Fat Win's excellent performances added a lot to the show. But after reading it, I thought about it carefully, and I felt like something was wrong. It didn't have the shocking power to the bottom of my heart, and it was difficult to call it a masterpiece.
No matter how you look at this deadly remonstrance, it's just a flash of inspiration after Gore's disfigurement and the terminal illness of his female colleague. The cowboy and the lawyer fulfilled them. But Pauline didn't explain the cause and effect. Did he come up with this last trick just because he was desperate after drinking and promiscuity? In addition, the details of Bessie leaving her coat at the lawyer's office, researching the video and concluding suicide, the car's overheating and breaking down and causing delays, etc., are all too deliberate and reluctant to be very convincing.
Gore and Constant's ideals can be described as lofty, and their spirit of self-sacrifice is also admirable, but setting up a situation by suicide and causing themselves to be put to death to oppose the death penalty is always a conspiracy, let alone martyrdom. From this point of view, it may be an important reason why the film is ordinary.
Fortunately, Spacey and Fat Wen are both actors I admire, and the other supporting roles are also good, especially the little boy who has only a few shots, but he is very good. The photography editing is remarkable, especially the parallel editing at the end, the details of the death penalty and the comparison of the recipe for the execution are a bit interesting. As a suspense movie that burns your brain and guesses the ending, two hours is not a waste.

The Life of David Gale quotes

  • Berlin: There once was a girl named Berlin. Who wanted it now and again. Not "now and again". But Now! And again and again and again.

  • Ross: As the poets have mournfully sung/ death takes the innocent young/ the screamingly funny,/ the rolling in money,/ and those who are very well hung.
