A Soothing Belief

When Klaus knew his time was coming, he mumbled "I'm coming, Love.", put down the ax against a stump, inhaled deeply and embraced death by disappearing.

It got me. What a soothing idea that believing you will unite with the beloveds after passing away. Then you won't fear death anymore. But it's not way Chinese see death. Unlike westerners Chinese dodge the topic about death and rarely mention the passed relatives, while the westerners deem it important to keep their love in memory.

I was once invited to visit the parents' graveyard by a German friend. Not on purpose, just passed by the graveyard when strolling. Well, it's still strange for Chinese to walk through a graveyard. So it's really quite different between the Oriental and Western culture.

I think the belief they have is nice though.

[since the reindeer aren't attached, the sleigh starts to roll backwards]

Jesper: They're not attached. Why aren't they attached? I thought they were attached. I never in a million years would've done what I just did if I didn't think these were attached.

  • Klaus: A true selfless act always sparks another.
