At the Shanghai International Film Festival a few years ago, there was this color film shot by Japanese director Akira Kurosawa in the screenings in 1985. This popular movie, which sold for 120 yuan per ticket, caught my attention: since it was 160 minutes long, it was nearly 12 o'clock in the evening! The next day, I gave up after an ideological struggle, but then I regretted very much for this ancient costume war film that meticulously depicts the Warring States period. The colors are quite bright and the costumes are also very elegant. It is indeed my dish. So after that, I came to a conclusion: I must watch this film carefully and carefully! When I watch it at home, I will take a short break in the middle, and I don’t understand the picture or lines, and then I go back and replay it. In this way, my wish has finally been fulfilled.
After watching it, I found that it was very special: the protagonist in the film is the king of a country and has three sons. At the age of 70, he gave up his throne to his eldest son Taro at the birthday banquet. Under the witness of the two neighboring kings, he did not expect to be killed. To the strong opposition of the third son Saburo! His reason is: the three sons watched Lao Tzu kill, burn, seize, and rob the family property. How could the sons live in peace and love each other?
When the lord heard it, he was so angry that he felt very embarrassed. He exiled Saburo in a fit of anger. What the lord did not expect was that the whole family would be in chaos and scattered after the transfer of power! The whole film is magnificent and the war scenes are realistic and shocking! Dazzling!
There are three things that particularly fascinate me throughout the film:
1. Clothing and makeup: In the context of the Warring States Period, men's clothing was very particular: the fabrics were gorgeous, the workmanship was exquisite, and the color distribution was bright. The color of the clothes of the eldest son Taro was yellow, and he wore a cleverly designed, three-dimensional cut hat on his head. The ribbon is also yellow, indicating the mighty power of inheriting the lord's throne. Jiro's main color is red, and even the battle flags on the backs of all the soldiers in the second city are also red: it indicates the desire to seize power and usurp the throne! The color of Saburo's clothes is rational and straightforward blue, which shows that even if he has wisdom and luck, he can't resist the sinister and tragic ending of people who are attacked by muskets and cannot be prevented!
Women's clothing is also very distinctive in the film: the patterns are exquisite, the materials are elegant, and when viewed from the back, the sleeves connected to the clothes are shaped like bat wings. I remember wearing a similar bat shirt in a theatrical performance when I was in elementary school, but it was not as exaggerated as in the film, and it was interesting to see the wings of a crane from the back! It was popular for a while! The eyebrows of some women in the film are also very strange: they actually shaved off the original eyebrows, and moved to two centimeters above them to draw flat oval false eyebrows: it is not natural at all! Why has to be this way?
2. The second thing that attracts me is the acting of the protagonist: Tatsuya Nakadai's performance is amazing! From the very beginning, he reprimanded his son for being a tyrant, his eyes looking for perfection when he was wronged, his helpless expression of despair in the face of the mutual killing between the two sons, his inability to accept the reality and his helpless act of going crazy, seeing Saburo again When I don't dare to look up and feel ashamed... As the most important character of this film, the protagonist lives up to expectations and will "snatch it: whether it is small, big, thing, person, country, or it must be returned. The" truth is deductively clear and unmistakable! Tatsuya Nakadai's acting is impressive, tsk tsk praise!
3. The third place is the king's women, such as the lord, Taro, and Jiro, who are faced with different reactions and choices when they are about to be killed, the country is about to be destroyed, and death is imminent:
1. The protagonist's women all swear to protect him and choose to commit suicide or help commit suicide: this is the real king's woman! Righteousness and righteousness, live and die together!
2. Taro's woman: Taro just died of his wife Feng (should be called mad): Immediately changed his face and threatened Jiro, and at the same time seduced him with the color and sexual desire that he sent to the door, and even cried and asked to kill Jiro's wife at the end: she This scheming person eventually led to the death of the disaster!
3. Jiro's woman: Mo is the princess who was snatched by the lord after beheading the neighboring country, but Mo does not take revenge like Feng who also encountered the same thing. She believes in Buddhism: look down on everything, do good and accumulate virtue! In the end of the film, she always encourages hatred The younger brother Tsurumaru, who is the driving force, stands tall above the lord even though he is blind in both eyes, which is ironic and far-sighted!
The film has won numerous awards: the American Academy Award, the British Academy Award, the Japanese Academy Award, the French Caesar Award, all nominated or won! Of these, Italy's David Award is the most sensible: awarded for the best foreign director! Because this film was proudly called his masterpiece by director Akira Kurosawa himself!
