The first episode details in-depth integration analysis! (Serious spoilers, welcome to discuss)

Davonte 2022-04-25 06:01:01

The following comments are written after I re-watched the first episode after watching the 5 episodes. My impressions will be divided into 4 parts:

1. Basic information, popular science,
2. Profound details (please pay special attention to this part! )
3. Important sentences in the play
4. My thoughts and evaluation

1. Basic information science

1. The organization of the people in white The

following are the integration of the information given in the play.

①Organization name: Guilty Remnant (Guilty Remnant)

②The organization was established: 1 year ago (that is, 2 years after the disappearance occurred, the sheriff's original words)

③The current number of the organization: about 50 people in Mapletown

④The organization is in Leader of the region: Godmother in white clothes (I guess there may be a bigger BOSS behind the organization)

⑤Whether the organization exists in other regions: To be determined

⑥ Organization belief: To be determined (a Key Question in this play) But the text on the bathroom whiteboard (WE ARE LIVING REMINDERS) has profound meaning.

⑦Organization characteristics: silence, smoking, non-violence resistance (Non Violence).

Why is silent: to be solved. But in the first episode, when Tom was in the car with the congressman, the person on the radio said a sentence from Wittgenstein: Where of one cannot speak, there of one must remain silent. The reason for the silence of the white clothed man?

Why smoke: There is a white board hanging on the wall in the room where the white-clothed people eat, and it says: We smoke to proclaim our faith. So why must it be smoking instead of other forms? I have an idea. Do you remember what the slogan they raised on Heroes Day? Is there a connection between "STOP WASTING YOUR BREATH" smoking and breath? The subtitle "STOP WASTING YOUR BREATH" is translated as "Don't waste any more words". Can there be more interpretations?

Why non-violent resistance: to be solved. ⑧The

daily work and rest of the people in white clothes in the organization (written on the whiteboard):

5am fisrt wakeup
6-8am sustenance dinner
8am-8pm watching and committee tasks

Committee Tasks: similar to meetings, appeared in the first episode. Everyone gathers to look through information about goals that have the potential to join the organization. (For example, Laurie and the woman who was killed in the fifth episode flipped through the target Meg's information)
Watching Tasks: Watching your own goals. There is one detail. The Watching Tasks of these people in white are all a group of two people of the same gender, and the goals are the same gender. Three pairs of men in white appeared in the first episode, namely: Laurie and her companion staring at Meg, two women in white on the hockey field (I presume to stare at the sheriff’s daughter Jill), and two men in white at the door of the tavern (I presume to stare at the sheriff Kevin ). So Jill and Kevin may both be targets! ! ! (Will they join as the plot develops?)

8pm-9pm sustenance eating

⑨Mapletown residents' impression of the organization: most of them are bad and resisted.

The above is the basic information of the organization.

Regarding the white clothing organization, I have the following questions:

①The organization is called Guilty Remnant. So why do these people think they are guilty? How guilty?
②What does the organization believe in? Why smoke silent non-violent resistance?
③The whiteboard in the bathroom says WE ARE LIVING REMINDERS. What do they want to Remind?
④ What is the origin of the organization? What is the power behind it? Where is the money to buy a house and a church? Is there a big boss behind the scenes?
⑤ Is the organization related to Wayne, the black savior? (This is my guess, see the "four. My thoughts and evaluations" section for details.)

2. Rapture (raptured)

Christian terminology. I don't know much about Christianity so I haven't heard of this term. Wikipedia will post it to everyone.

"The rapture means that in the eschatology of some conservative Protestant Christians (including fundamentalists, evangelicals, Pentecostals, Baptists, and many independent groups), living Christians will be sent to heaven at the same time Be with Christ, and the mortal body will be sublimated into the immortal body. When the rapture will occur is the subject of frequent debate among sects and individuals who accept this concept. A popular explanation is that the rapture will occur in On the eve of the Great Tribulation (the 7-year period before the second coming of Jesus). Another explanation is that the rapture will occur in the middle of the Great Tribulation, after which Christ will go to earth to establish his kingdom and rule the world for 1,000 years."

Pastor Matt on Heroes Day It has been emphasized that disappearing is not being raptured, because many people who disappear have done very bad things. So all the people who are raptured must be so-called "good people"? Seek help from religious gods.
There is another question, whether it is true or impersonating, is the black savior Wayne the Christ in this rapture?

3. Characters in the play

I think that in order to understand this drama, we must understand the state of the characters, why they are in this state, and the relationship between the characters. Here everyone remembers for yourself, I will skip it first. (I'm really sorry!!!)

1. The basic information science is finished

2. There are profound details (!!!)

Please pay special attention to this part. Many details make me feel that maybe this is a drama. . .

1. The mysterious mark that Tommy drew on Chritine's head at the end of episode 4 actually appeared in the first episode! ! !

The appearance time is about 49 minutes and 50 seconds. On Heroes Day, Sheriff Kevin found four people with the mark on their heads, two men and two women. Sheriff Kevin used to take what seemed to be a piece of paper from a man, and at the same time asked them "What are you doing?" Then he said "Be done with it." Kevin left. When leaving, another woman (no mark on her head) looked at Kevin deeply! (I think this woman may also have meaning...)

2. Pink-haired clown! ! !

I faintly remember in the next episode (I forgot to be sorry for the details) there was a clown with pink hair in the elevator, and the first episode also appeared. Still Heroes Day, the female mayor found out.

3. The man in black! ! !

The sheriff’s daughter Jill looked across the street when she came out of the Dorfman’s party. At the door of the opposite house, there were two men in black with only eyes exposed. . Very weird. . . What's the meaning? ! ! !

4. Laurie, the sheriff's wife.

Her memories. Soon after the first episode started, Laurie got up and smoked, but memories of a group of girls fighting flashed in his mind.

5. Tommy, the son of the sheriff.

There are three obvious scars on his back; I saw two people jumping off a building at the university; I was watching "The Outsider".

The scars were seen when Tommy was undressing at the end of the show, it was very obvious. The school classmates jumped off the building and recalled flashing back when they were talking to the councillors in the car. There are actually many mysteries in the role of Tommy. Why run away? Why work for Wayne, the black savior? Why not accept Wayne's rescue? Where do the scars come from? and many more.

6. Sheriff Kevin (the male protagonist has many details!)

The deer that appeared twice (the first time is still and the second time is moving)
breaks up the photos
and sighs after seeing the continuous debate on religion and science on TV (indicating that he has a deep crisis of faith)
His dream (driving in the middle of the night, the radio frequency was suddenly interrupted, hitting a deer)
did not seem to ring the alarm clock (Heroes Day, he got up late, looked at the alarm clock deeply, suspecting that the alarm clock did not ring)
messy kitchen (who did it? He? The second time I met the deer, I asked if the deer did it.)
At the bar, I recalled that he was having sex with an affair when the man suddenly disappeared three years ago (but he lied that he was cleaning the drain. Who was the affair? Where is it now?" Is it possible that the woman was having sex and the woman disappeared...)
The man in white he saw after coming out of the bar (presumably the sheriff should be the target of the two men in white)
when he saw the deer for the second time, he asked the dog killer Am I awake?

About deer and mad dog: hallucination or reality?

I think mad dogs really exist, and the deer needs to be solved. The strong evidence for the real existence of mad dogs is the rumors of mad dogs made by dog killers and boys when they buried the dogs, so it should not be the hallucination of the sheriff.

7.

The little actions of the sheriff’s daughter Jill with the boys in the classroom when everyone prayed for the departed person. The boy gestured to shoot the gun, while Jill gestured to hang him. (Including the operation of burning the holy infant, I think this group of young people is also a focus of the show when discussing faith. They should be against Christianity (religion).)
The man in white in the hockey field (should be the target of Jill)
The man in black who saw the party after the
party and the tears from the corner of his eye when playing Choke (the emotional expression of this play is an absolute highlight.)
The sticker on the bedroom door , It says "Murder by death"

8. Portraits of people on the wall.

At the beginning of the play, a painter paints a black and white portrait of an Asian female figure on the wall. (I think the place is a bit strange. Will someone remember his family like this? Or am I over-interpreting it?)

9. Baby shoes.

When Jill came out of the party, two driving boys said they had picked up a baby shoe. (It's strange that I picked up one baby shoe in the middle of the night...) With the addition of the man in black that Jill saw behind, this paragraph is very weird.

10. Statue

What story does the statue unveiled on Heroes Day tell? Please answer the religious gods!

11. The father of the sheriff running naked.

12. Pastor Matt said that Sheriff Kevin and his father are off the hook. What does this mean?

Please come forward your own views on the above details! ! !

If so many pit screenwriters can fill in the absolute drama one by one! ! !

2. End of meaningful details.

3. Key sentences in the play

1. "Where of one cannot speak, there of one must remain silent."

This sentence appeared on the radio in the car where Tommy and the congressman were sitting. I think this sentence may be the reason for GR's silence, and it is also an argument that I think GR is related to the black savior.

2. "We are living reminders." "We smoke to proclaim our faith."

The text on the whiteboard in the bathroom and living room of the GR room.

3. The conversation between the sheriff’s daughter Jill and the two boys burying the dog.

Male: "Unless Dudley here is one of the ones that went nuts on the 14th. I heard there's a whole pack of them that lives out in the woods behind the hospital."
Jill: "That's urban-legend bullshit. I mean, I know loads of people with dogs, and none of them ran away."
Male: "No,no,no.Not all of them did, just the ones that witnessed it,you know, who were actually there when someone went...Pool!Dogs are just animals, man. They're not like us ,trying to reason it all out, make sense of shit that makes no sense. They see something like that, and they just snap. All bets are off right there. No more chasing sticks,no more licking your own balls. They just go primal, man.Sanme thing's gonna happen to us.It's just taking longer ".
man:" Goodbye, Dadly.Hope IT's Easier now. "
Jill:." We're Sorry you GOT Stuck with US "

generally say only see The disappeared dog is crazy. Dogs are just animals, they don't look for the cause like people do. When they see this kind of thing, they go crazy and return to their original state. People will eventually become like this, it's just a matter of time.

4. What the black savior Wayne said to Tommy.

"(I've) Been having this dream,Tom.It's the same one, over and over. It's about my son."We're gone,Daddy."He says to me."And all the people who stayed, they 're pretending like it never happened. They're asleep. But they need to wake up now."So I ask him why.Why now?And he says:"Therefore, watch and remember that by the space of 3 years,I seize not to warn them, night and day, with tears. "The grace period's over, Tom. Time to go to work."

See the subtitles for translation details.

Then please discuss what does "Therefore, watch and remember that by the space of 3 years, I seize not to warn them, night and day, with tears." mean?

3. End of the key sentences in the play

4. My thoughts and evaluation

1. What is this play talking about?

The disappearance of 2% of people is only a prerequisite, and this drama mainly discusses faith.

Why do you say that?
First of all, the title of the show is "The Leftovers", not "Where Are the Gone" or "Searching For The Missing", so we can't be entangled in "How did the people who disappeared disappear? Where did they go?" The problem, the focus of this play should not be here, it discusses the rest of the people. However, the disappearance of 2% of people is indeed a deep pit. I don't know if the screenwriter will fill it in and how to fill it.

So since the discussion is about the remaining people, what do you want to discuss about the remaining people?

Just imagine, if in our real life, 2% of people suddenly disappeared one day, what kind of mental state would you be in?

I will have the following status.
There is sadness. Because of the disappearance of relatives and friends.
More fear. In the end what happened? Where did they go? Who did it? Will I disappear suddenly one day?
But the most profound feeling should be a crisis of faith. And this will happen to almost everyone.

People who believe in science are beginning to be at a loss: some are struggling to explain and find answers, some are deeply questioning, some are starting to pass by. (Such as the controversy on TV in the play.)
People who believe in religion are not at all relaxed. Such as pastor Matt, such as the number of people going to church is decreasing. (It shows that more and more people choose to abandon religion). As far as Christianity is concerned, as Matt said, this is not a rapture. what is that?
People in the middle zone can't bear to go anywhere.
The rebellious young man began to act frantically, perhaps to vent, or perhaps just because he was living too painfully to find some fun to make himself better. Tears fell from the corner of Jill's eyes, Tommy's roar in the pool, and the boy said "Hope it's easier now." to the dog when the dog was buried. All of this shows that disappearance is for almost everyone-to quote Meg in the play-Overwhelming.

However, man is not a dog, not an animal. Dogs are crazy when they see the disappearance of people. Everything is meaningless to them. They no longer care about chasing sticks or licking balls. They become primal. (The original words in the play)
However, even if people are advanced animals, they are still animals in the final analysis. So the boy said that it is only a matter of time before people return to their original state (without faith) like mad dogs.
Therefore, in such a state or contradiction, almost everyone lives a miserable life. Riots often occur (broadcast on TV in the play), organizations in white clothes or similar organizations also appear (although it is not known what they believe in), and the black savior Wayne (whether real or impersonating) also comes to the world.

I think there is a kind of art that uses exaggerated techniques to describe the problems in life and arouse people's thinking. Exaggeration can make people better realize the importance of the problem (although I have been thinking about whether exaggeration will change the nature of the problem). A typical example is Lars Von Trier. I have only watched his "Melancholia" and "Female Addicts", especially "Female Addicts". The scales are very large, but I think the core of these two films is not or not merely visual impact or curiosity or pretense. , But deep sympathy for marginalized people in society. He uses exaggerated techniques and shocking images, the real purpose of which is actually to depict the inner pain of the marginalized. A good friend of mine said that he is a true humanistic carer.

Going back to this drama, again, the creative team used the exaggeration of 2% disappearance to discuss our belief problem. (Not only religion, science, etc. are all within the scope here.)
Why exaggerate? I think in real life, faith, or else it has been taken for granted, or it is just forgotten. Not many people really think about this issue.
And this drama is exploring, or hope that people will think, what does faith mean to us? Can one be without faith? Can people live without faith? Can you live well? What will people do if their faith is shaken? At the same time, this will more or less trigger our reflection on the issue of faith. Therefore, I think it is admirable for such a show to be shown on HBO. For straightforward preaching and interesting episodes, I prefer to choose the latter to reflect on some profound issues. Perhaps this is where the value of art lies.

Let us follow the lead creator and screenwriter and see what answers they will give us. Or maybe...there is no answer.

2. Is GR related to Wayne, the black savior?
This point is just my intuition and a little unobvious argument. Intuition accounts for the majority.....I will write an argument for everyone to discuss!

Argument 1: Wittgenstein said that on the way to Wayne, but that sentence about silence clearly implies GR. So does this imply that the two are related?
Argument 2: Wayne said to Tommy that he dreamed that his sons told him that after they disappeared, people pretended that nothing happened and was asleep. GR does not.
Argument 3: Screenwriters don’t often associate seemingly unrelated people in the end. . . (Please ignore this one)
Negative Argument 1: Is the mark on the head a sign of the Savior Organization? If it is, then it is likely that Wayne has nothing to do with GR.

I just came up with this speculation on a whim, and share it with everyone. Let’s see if there are any arguments or negative arguments.

3. My evaluation of the play. After

watching 5 episodes , I have a hunch after watching the first episode carefully.

Reason 1: The topic
has been described before and will not be repeated.

Reason 2: Invincible details
Re-watching the first episode found so many details (I listed in the second part), cheer for it! If the screenwriter can explain and write the responses one by one, it is really awesome!

Reason 3: Emotional expression.
The tears in the corners of Jill's eyes while playing Choke, the sheriff's sighs after seeing the endless scientific and religious debates on TV, and Tommy's cry in the pool at the end of the play, the delicate emotional expression is definitely a plus for this play! (I have similar shots in the next few episodes in the impression)

4. My thoughts and questions are finished.

Note

① I will continue to review the next few episodes and may write about the feelings (you guess I will also write the feelings of the first episode. How long did it take... Can't afford to hurt!!!) So there is no guarantee that the next post will appear (I tried my best...)

②Since I only did the first episode carefully, I might overthrow myself later. Some conclusions.

③Thanks to Wang Liwen, Miscellaneous, and Desecration Movies. Their comments and analysis have given me a lot of enlightenment.

④Thank you all for persisting in reading this article! ! ! Come and discuss! ! !
