Mike Cahill seems to like to use the shell of science fiction to express some obscure little literature and art. To be honest, it will feel fresh when you first watch it, but always using this routine will inevitably fall into the rut. Whether it is "Another Earth" or "Type I Origin", I always feel that the director wants to express insufficiently, it seems that the movie always ends at the node. Or the director wants to give people a feeling of endless aftertaste, but it always seems thin. In addition to playing with literature and art - "Another Earth" said what if there was another earth, "Type I Origin" said what if there was an afterlife. But that's the case with both films, when it comes to proving that there really is another Earth and seemingly proving that there is an afterlife. If you want to leave room for aftertaste, at least you have to finish the previous story. Just like if you want people to feel unfinished about eating, you have to cook the appetizers. If the appetizers are not cooked well, how can they feel after eating them?
