I think the male protagonist is still holding on to his scientific beliefs when he takes the test. But the little girl finally hugged him and cried in front of the elevator, convincing him that there was such a thing as "reincarnation". He pushed open the hotel door, echoing what his ex-girlfriend said, "You need to open that door yourself."
