2 details I like

The first time I watched it, the picture quality was very poor, and I didn't see any nuance. Finally, I waited for the Blu-ray quality and saw a lot of details that I couldn't see before. Among them, I liked Cate's two acting skills the most:

Therese introduced Thomas (private detective) and Carol to know each other, and Carol gave Thomas a perfunctory indifference, contempt and some vigilance , but when he turned to look at therese, his face was gentle, loving, and interesting (simply, eye fuck). Seeing the "girlfriend" who is not familiar with the world and being approached by a strange man, the instinctive desire for protection and possessiveness, as well as the state of being amaze and amuse every day when they are in love, is vividly interpreted!

Another favorite detail is the morning after... Carol went to check out, when the waiter went to check in, she was standing alone in front of the counter. When people are alone, they think about things. At that time, she should have thought about the scene of the night before, and then showed a very sweet expression. Many expressions in this movie are seen through the car window or glass, which widens the distance between the characters and the audience, and gives the characters more "alone" space. Real emotions, and the interpretation of this emotion in many places is very delicate.

When I first saw it, I was infected by Rooney Mara's Xiaoshou image, and after watching it in high-definition, I felt more and more that Cate was the old actor.

Carol quotes

  • Therese Belivet: Have you ever been in love with a boy?

    Richard Semco: No.

Therese Belivet: But you've heard of it.

Richard Semco: Of course. I mean, have I heard of people like that? Sure.

Therese Belivet: I don't mean people like that. I just mean two people who fall in love with each other. Say, a boy and a boy. Out of the blue.

Richard Semco: I don't know anyone like that. But I'll tell you this: there's always some reason for it, in the background.

Therese Belivet: So you don't think it could just... happen to somebody. To anybody.

Richard Semco: No. I don't. What are you saying? Are you in love with a girl?

    Therese Belivet: No.

  • Therese Belivet: What town is this again?

[the morning after they first made love]

    Carol Aird: This? Waterloo.

    [laughs]

    Carol Aird: Isn't that awful?
