There are a lot of things about this movie that touched me.
- Investment banking is a magical field that attracts the smartest people in the world. MIT's Rocket Scientist, Engineer have abandoned the original profession. Joined this team. It takes about two or three years to understand a job. Junior Analyst cried in the bathroom in the early morning because he predicted that he would be fired. The boss came in to wash up, and after a night of argument, he was tired but still calm, obviously having experienced the ups and downs of the business sea.
- Are u alright?
- You are about to fire me. You know this is all I've ever want to do
- Really?
Reminds me of the first full-time job in my life in October 3 years ago, in one of the big four in CBD. At the Welcome dinner, the unsmiling big P asked everyone how they felt about the upcoming job. I still remember my answer. I am really looking forward to it. Yes, even at such an advanced age as graduate school, even with a few part-time jobs and internships, I am still looking forward to life. I believe Life will unfold beautifully and magically in front of me. Now, when I think of the lights of the CBD at night, I feel so far away. Although I still work hard, my understanding of work is quite different. I can't fully empathize with the old bird of the investment bank. Spiritual God will:
If you really want to do this with your life, you have to believe that you are necessary, and you are. Ppl want to live like this in their cars and fucking houses they even can't pay for? then you are necessary. The only reason that they all get continue living like kings is because we got our figures on the scale in their favor. I take hands off, the world will get fucking fair and fucking quickly and nobody actually want that. They say they do, but they don't. They want what we have to give them, but they also play innocent and pretend they have no idea where it came from. That is more hypocrisy I am willing to swallow. Fuck them, Fuck normal people.
Just a few lines , making the role of finance in modern society and the inevitable boom-bubble-crash-depression economic cycle brought about by human greed at a glance. However, just like sometimes the boss himself may not fully believe it, but he still wants to encourage the children to continue to do their jobs well. Sam's speech at the mobilization meeting before the clearance was clear and powerful, which also left a deep impression on me:
Guys, I have been working in this place for 34 years, I can tell you that from experience, people are gonna say some nasty things about what we do here today, about what you've dedicated a portion of lives to. But have faith in the bigger picture, our skills have not been wasted, we have accomplished much. Our talents have been used for the greater goods.
A job, if you see it as a mission for which you put a lot of time and effort, if not for greater Goods, it's hard to hold on to it -- even for the elites with pretty nice money on Wall Street. This is the nature of human being.
With the recent twitter listing, the battle between founders has once again become a hot topic of discussion. Hearing the news of Chow Yun-fat's naked donation today, I wonder if these Silicon Valley upstarts will make a similar decision in the future - and then recalling these entanglements when I was young, I feel that I used to be so unseemly.
Finally, I wish everyone to find their own Calling, Connected to Greater Goods, Live a Happy and Meaningful Life.
