The children of the two families fought during the quarrel, so the four parents had to meet and put on a tit-for-tat show. From the beginning of pretending to be a relaxed group to not being speculative, it gradually evolved into cynicism towards each other, from the workplace to the family, from the personality to the character, from the details of life to the values, the two couples tried their best to attack each other. It also exposed the contradictions and embarrassment of their respective families. In a confined space, this farce is extremely tense, and coupled with the drama of the two actresses Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet, it is really enjoyable.
As the saying goes, a good word is a kind of invisible killing. Children may not have overnight grudges, but adults are brooding and refuse to give in. Perhaps, every killing is an opportunity to vent their dissatisfaction with the status quo, but words are a double-edged sword, and being careful and merciful under the sword is far more difficult and more valuable than indulgence.
