If I remember correctly, the old man was nearly ninety years old when he directed and acted in this film (seems to be 88 years old). If my political sense is correct, the old man is definitely a die-hard fan of the American Republican Party, a proper right-wing conservative! But on closer inspection, this kind of character is not without merit; he is enthusiastic, simple, straightforward, practical and capable, and even a bit chivalrous. The result, of course, is that a "family crisis" is always around ("The Mule", "Classic Car", "Absolute Power", "Unforgivable"). Maybe a straight man like me found some shadows in him (such characters). I always use these characters to make money for myself, and I especially like these characters created by the old man. Speaking of this film, the old man in the film plays the role of the male protagonist himself. He should have fought in the army when he was young, and after he retired from the army, he has been busy with his flower-growing (like lily?) career, always neglecting his family. But in his later years, he tried his best to mend the broken family/family relationship that he had tossed around, and from time to time he had to help his veteran friends. So he became self-reliant and embarked on an illegal and criminal way of earning/saving money. At the time of his arrest and trial, he frankly pleaded guilty and was willing to serve his sentence in federal prison. In fact, I have discussed with my neighbors before why the old man in the movie pleaded guilty in court with a light "Guilty", so that he may spend the rest of his life in prison. I don’t think this is complicated. On the one hand, the old man is still a patriot in his bones.
