Tarkovsky indulged in non-narrative musings

You'll understand Stalker's narrative approach when you read Poetry Film's glossary: "A film - making proposition that denies plot, explores metaphor, and lyrical function."

Andrei Tarkovsky, whose father is a poet, seems to have written a gloomy temperament in his genes. From a young age, he has become a highly regarded and talented director. At that time, the star director that everyone admired was Berg Mann and Fellini, at that time everyone liked to think about human nature and like to explore new forms of expression. At that time, it was the world of literary films. Putting the Stalker in this context seems to understand why.

The feel of a poetic movie is vividly and delicately embodied in Stalker. The characters and plots are extremely simple. The whole book is full of emotional long shots, wet, dirty and decadent scenes, full of metaphorical dialogues, and a few simple conflicts. It's all about human nature, why is he a non-narrative meditation? Because most of the shots have no plot, when you follow the director through the shots, you will find that he is just describing some thoughts about human nature, and does not want to tell a story.

This is really a very, very depressing film, full of gloom from the very first shot, and then the whole story setting is full of metaphors. The two and a half hour film is about three middle-aged men. Going to a mysterious area called "District" to find a "room", in the process, all kinds of humanistic thoughts were carried out. Three confused old men, in an abandoned secret realm, searched for the deepest desire in their hearts, one after another. The long shot and the close-up of the face do give people a sense of "time pressure". I felt relieved the moment I watched it. It felt like eating fast food every day and occasionally spending a lot of money to eat Michelin but not getting it. After eating it, I don’t want to waste it. After a while, I still think it looks so advanced, but what moved me? This is a question worth thinking about.

It is undeniable that movies have been reduced from an artistic expression to a commodity, and our generation is a generation that consumes movies, just like some people like to read online articles, some people like to read serious novels, but now the people who read online articles are far away. Far more than people who read serious novels, it is too heavy, and can no longer bear these heavy burdens outside of life, and these heavy burdens are not like the heavy burdens brought by the pressure of life, but the heavy burdens brought by thinking about life, and a few people have time to think about religion. , poetry, human nature, maybe that's why I think this "non-narrative musing" movie looks great, but it doesn't resonate with me. When I write this, I don't feel like I recommend this movie. There is too much negative energy. It's better to watch some happy content.
