It is right to be skeptical about a thing, but we should not jump to conclusions, because facts need a lot of evidence to support.

Synopsis
St. Nicholas Catholic School is a strictly religious school where all students are afraid of the headmaster , Sister Aloysius (Meryl Streep) .
But the new priest, Flynn (Philip Seymour Hoffman), has a completely different style.
Aloysius is uneasy about this, so she lets new nun James (Amy Adams) follow Flynn's every move.
One day, James accidentally discovered that the priest had put something in the cabinet of a black student named Donald.
After waiting for the priest to leave, she quietly opened the cabinet and found that it was a t-shirt .
This alarmed her because Donald had been called alone to the priest's house a few days earlier.
When James found Donald, he seemed sad when he didn't look right, but he wouldn't say anything when asked, and most importantly, he smelled of alcohol .
James couldn't believe that a priest who usually seemed to be easy-going would be such a person.
Panicked, she hurriedly told Sister Aloysius about this.
Instead of having doubts, Aloysius decided to find a time to talk to the priest.
Seeing that Christmas was coming, she called the priest and James to prepare the Christmas celebration.
Her purpose was to get the priest to confess his crimes in the presence of James.
The conversation did not go well, and the priest was furious when he learned the purpose of the conversation. He denied having done anything dirty .
However, under the pressure of Aloysius, the priest still told the truth.
It turned out that Donald stole the holy wine that day and was discovered by him.
In order to prevent him from being severely punished, the priest decided not to mention it to outsiders after educating him.
James was very happy when the truth came out, because she didn't really want the priest to be a bad person.
But Aloysius didn't believe what the priest said, and she decided to tell Donald's mother about it...
Video Analysis
First, let’s talk about the Chinese translation. When I saw the title of the movie, I thought of “The Conversation”. The Chinese translation is “The Great Conspiracy of Eavesdropping”. In contrast, I prefer the literal translation of “Dialogue”, which can arouse my interest in watching it even more. , the film I'm talking about today is even worse. How did the good "Doubt" translate into "Doubt of Child Abuse"? Is the literal translation of "Doubt" bad? I suspect that it was influenced by "Suspicious Cloud" which was released in the same year, but these are two completely different films.
The cast of the film is a major attraction. Of course, the Oscar regular Aunt May needless to say. Philip Seymour Hoffman , who played opposite her , also won the Oscar for best actor with "Capote" in 2006, and played the role of Zhan. Sister Thomas' Amy Adams, who was still young at the time, is now a Hollywood superstar in her own right. Such a strong cast naturally gave us a very wonderful performance, especially a few indoor scenes, every expression was moving.
The film is considered a boring film by some people, but the suspense and dramatic conflict of the film still make it very attractive, at least the whole film will not feel long after watching.
There are so many elements covered in the content of the film, and the feelings it brings to me are also very complex, I don't even know where to start writing, the only certainty is that "Doubt" is the theme of the film.
"Old school" and "innovative school" , this is the most intuitive feeling for us. In the film, Aloysius, the nun played by Aunt May, is a traditional old school. She believes in strict canons and dogmas. There are many details, such as Be quiet when eating, don't waste any food, girls can't bring hairpins, and students are not allowed to write with ballpoint pens, etc. Flynn played by Philip is just the opposite. He goes against the seriousness that a priest should be, and gets along with the students. Not only that, he also has long fingernails, writes with a ballpoint pen, talks freely to women while eating, and is almost indistinguishable from ordinary people. different.
From start to finish, the director just presented us with these two kinds of contrasts, without a clear standpoint, but let the audience think for themselves. Of course, in my opinion, both methods have their own advantages and disadvantages. For example, strict nuns may be more effective for naughty students, while easy-going priests are more able to create a harmonious atmosphere. As for which is better, it is a matter of opinion. It was the first "Doubt" of the film .
"Race" and "homosexuality" have long been the most talked about topics in American cinema, and this movie is no exception. What happens when a black kid falls into a group of white kids? And he's also gay. When everyone around you doesn't like you, there is someone who takes care of you and protects you from being bullied. What kind of feelings do you have for him? This is the second "Doubt" .
The impact of the incident, Flynn has made mistakes, maybe related to "abuse", or maybe related to a "nun", but this time, the director did not tell us the truth clearly. Although he was forced to transfer, he was still not punished . James has always believed in Flynn and felt sorry for what he did, because she brought it up and led to the following series of things. The most important thing is Aloysius. She started crying at the end of the film. What did her words mean? Did she lie to force Flynn to leave because she wasn't sure he was wrong, or was she unsure if her beliefs were still true? This is the third "Doubt" .
The last "Doubt" , and I think the most important one, is for our audience. I believe that no matter how strong the will is, people will be shaken after watching the movie. Is Father Flynn guilty? Are we doubting our previous judgments? Seeing the comments, some people say that Flynn has abused children before, some people say that he is gay and he is in love with black children, some people say that all this is his disguise, so what is the evidence? Have we, as the audience, already, like the characters in the film, come to a conclusion without any evidence? I think that's the theme of the movie.
Thinking of Father Flynn's three speeches, the first time he talked about a sailor who lost his way. When people have been trying hard but not getting results, they will fall into confusion. People will doubt whether the path they choose is the right one. . The second time I talked about a pillow full of feathers. After we removed the pillow and let the feathers symbolizing rumors fly in the sky, it was not so easy to get the feathers back. The third time is farewell. Then I think the connection is that when people doubt something, if it is spread out, it may have a great impact on the person involved, and when we scold the characters in the film, are we also doing something similar to that? Are they the same thing?
We cannot infer a person's current character based on past mistakes, because anyone can make mistakes, and most people yearn for redemption.
