Among the movies I have watched, my favorites are actually "August: Osage County" and "Nebraska".
I admit that the movies I watch are very boring, but it is not a concept with Xiaoqingxin anymore. The favorite of the past few years, "Day and Night in Tian Shui Wai", and the two most favorite films this year, belong to one style. Speaking of it, "August" is already the most narrative. One by one, the drama baggage is dropped. At least the viewers will not feel as bored as watching "Tian Shui Wai". In fact, John Wells is already very good at directing this kind of unscrupulous drama, which is enough to prove from the US version of "Shameless." I don't like "Shameless", and from a selfish point of view, if this film does not have so much drama, it will look better.
People always like to say "old naughty boy" and "never repair", probably because people will give up their indifferent self-esteem when they are old, and want to live unscrupulously for themselves for a few more years. Therefore, in my eyes, Meryl Streep is playing. The character Violet in the movie is no different from the 14-year-old girl Jane. The only difference is probably on the level of "selfishness". One of them is a choice made through a complete worldview, and the other is because the worldview is incomplete and not understood. What is responsibility. Similarly, Woody, who insisted on going to Lincoln City to redeem prizes in "Nebraska", also has such "persistence" in his body. In the past, he may have made compromises for his family. In fact, the two dramas have the same effect in terms of the advancement of the plot. The family and relatives who have not seen for a long time get together because of one incident. The secrets of the past, the familiar and unfamiliar estrangement between relatives, only need to get along for a few days to show up, and naturally the story will slowly get on track at this time. The reason why I prefer these films recently is probably that people who are 25 years old will understand family and responsibilities better. Especially when families get together, many of the problems we usually avoid will become apparent. Sometimes you will feel very helpless. Those people who have the same genes as you may not understand your life and pursuits, just like the indifference between relatives mentioned by Ivy during the dinner of the three sisters in the film.

My favorite part of the film is the story of Meryl Streep telling the three sisters about the boots. At the end, Julia Roberts sarcastically said that the story could not end like this, but Meryl Streep said this is the end of the story. There is nothing left, this is everything. It's like the love you fantasized about when you were young, or the lofty ideal you wanted to pursue. They disappeared at the end of the story like the boy with chocolate cowboy boots, and there is no intersection. There is no node that can tell you how this event ended. Many things in life are like this, and they ended without a reason. When you think about it, it may not be a complete story. It does not have the necessary climax or ending when we write an article. But this is life, and it is terrifyingly real.
Meryl Streep's performance in this play is almost impeccable, but she is not the one who brought me the biggest surprise in this play. For me, Julia Roberts is a well-deserved heroine of this drama, and she deserves the Oscar award. Kate's collapse in "Blue Jasmine" is still beautiful, but Julia Roberts let go of everything. The injustice of life begins when a woman grows older, which is probably the most thoroughly expressed in movie actors. I don’t like to catch the Oscars anymore. For example, Nicole Kidman, who I like very much in recent years, has amazing acting skills in both "Rabbit Hole" and "Delivery Boy", but there is no Oscar award to favor her. how?

There is another reason why this movie is so beloved that many people have never paid attention to it, and that is that the soundtrack of this movie was completed by Gustavo Santaolalla. Almost every piece of his music is my dish, and the most well-known is probably "Brokeback Mountain". In "August", these melodious guitars and pianos, coupled with the vast plains of Osage County, are almost the same as the distant view of the mountains and sheep at the beginning of "Brokeback Mountain". If you Google his look, you can probably imagine how happy this photo is.
But I always felt that I saw Violet, Woody and the elderly Ennis in him, a kind of "unscrupulous" that he wanted to be himself. Because you will understand one day that many things in the world cannot be solved after you understand it, and it is not because you consider other people's situation and others will understand you. Some problems cannot be solved, and some problems cannot be solved without us facing them. Just like the story of "August", I don’t think it stops at the node where all the questions have perfect answers, but that’s all, this is the complete 121 minutes; it is probably the same as our life, after entering adulthood, you You will find that there is no single moment to pick it up, it is a vacuum moment that solves all the problems.
For me personally, probably the only regret is that the director of this film is not Lee Ang. But What if the story ends this way in real life? Sometimes we just don't have another choice.
