First of all, we must first understand the central idea of the plot, which is nothing more than a traditional drama of drug dealers. To clarify the personnel relationship and development context, lawyer Fassbender introduced through Pete to know the dealer Baden and how to operate the drug delivery from Mexico to Chicago to make extra money without knowing it. Characters that appeared one after another include: Baden’s mysterious lover Diaz, a drug dealer gang, a speeding man transporting a truck activation module, a speeding man’s mother in prison, and a lawyer’s fiancee Cruz.
At the beginning of the mission, the speeding man was detained. Lawyer Fassbender released the speeding man on bail in the name of the mother of the speeding man. The speeding man was supposed to hand over the truck module to Pete, but was beheaded halfway by someone sent by Diaz, and the module was robbed. The drug dealer gang suspected that the lawyer was defrauding, and the panicked lawyer found Pete. Pete said that something was not good and asked everyone to run away. Looking back, Pete sent fake police to hijack the truck, successfully delivered the goods and got the payment, and then fled to London. On this side, Baden died unexpectedly, and the drug dealer group continued to keep an eye on the lawyer, kidnapping his girlfriend as a threat, and the lawyer had a nervous breakdown. On the other side, Diaz’s men chased down to London, arranged for the beauty to set the code, and solved Pete, thus Diaz won the victory.
In the last scene, the financial adviser made suggestions for Diaz, suggesting money laundering and changing status to escape. With two cubs as pets and watching them hunt for fun, Diaz, who was dressed like a witch, rejected all suggestions and sketched out a huge plan for killing and abuse in the future. The predictions have just begun.
The plot is probably such a situation. What's interesting is that I don't know what the director Ridley meant, or the script dictates that the key links of each event have been omitted. If this is omitted, the plot cannot be seen. Each scene becomes an independent story, but it is not a derivation of "Fragmented Memory", but it develops in a domino-like order in sequence. This requires the audience to have a strong ability to distinguish and link, and burn their brains to see why, but they may not know it. Especially in the age of various mentally handicapped commercial blockbusters, this kind of non-mainstream narrative method will completely give people the feeling that the monk Zhang Er is confused.
This fragmentary effect will also cause various interpretations and even bad reviews. The Chinese directly translated the English film title "The Counselor" into black gold murderous intent. The misled audience thought there would be such a blast scene, but what they saw was just a "barbarian"-style chatter. Only the five minutes of Gentle Township and Diaz’s gymnastics dance on Ferrari on the bed at the beginning are worth showing off. Pete’s head-cutting style came so suddenly and tragically, it was over before he was ready.
The film is even more controversial in mainstream American media. Only 3 out of 42 media gave full marks, 15 good reviews, 15 moderate reviews, and 12 negative reviews. Portland Oregonian of Oregon directly scored 0 points, calling this film a stupid waste of talent. Of course, there are very few media who see the mystery hidden in the film. As for whether it is the inside story behind the drug trafficking, or there is another irony. For the audience, it is enough to remember that this is a failed drug trafficking experience of an American lawyer!
