Manhattan

Finally watched Woody Allen's Manhattan. I have long known the classic New York scene under the black and white lens. The city describes its relationship with the people here in a vague state. But what moved me most about this film was the ending that ended with a simple dialogue. "You have to have some confidence in some people," Mary said a seemingly innocent remark, but it made me feel a little moved.

Whether it's a song or a movie, there are always moments that have a magical intersection with the viewer's experience and experience. At that moment, you know everything it wants to say and what it hasn't said yet.

In the city of New York, everyone is an island, and all you can do is to make your island bloom with tenacity and hope.

Manhattan, this city is steaming with your anxiety, frenzy, empty talk and desire, turning into a lifeless neon forest, an indestructible mirage.

Another Woody Allen masterpiece. Combining comedy elements with serious themes, the film not only shows love, but also the relationship between people. The film uses black and white photography, very emotional, coupled with Gershwin's music, can be called the epitome of American petty bourgeoisie life. Although the technique is not as innovative as "Annie Hall", the whole film is more comfortable to watch than "Annie Hall", but it is said that Woody himself does not like this movie very much.

Manhattan quotes

  • [On her ex-husband]

Mary Wilke: I was tired of submerging my identity to a very brilliant, dominating man. He's a genius.

Isaac Davis: Oh really, he was a genius, Helen's a genius and Dennis is a genius. You know a lot of geniuses, y'know. You should meet some stupid people once in a while, y'know, you could learn something.

  • Isaac Davis: It's an interesting group of people, your friends are.

    Mary Wilke: I know.

Isaac Davis: Like the cast of a Fellini movie.
