Romance and Heartbreak

Every time I watch Woody Allen in the afternoon, I always feel groggy and want to fall asleep at the beginning, but stick to it, I unconsciously look up at these characters with a smile, and my heart is broken for their emotions. Especially the dialogue with tracy at the end is sweet and heartbreaking, like the shadow cast by light through a cracked amber cup, you can only cover your mouth and enjoy the beauty of this delicate story. It's hard for me to say what form Woody Allen's magic comes from, what elements make it up, what is the central structure of the plot and characters, all I can say is, I get it, I know what you're trying to say, there's nothing I can do but my Heart is filled. This is the most romantic and sentimental movie I've seen this year: maybe you know what this romance means, Woody Allen never says it and just lets it flow out of the movie.

Manhattan quotes

  • Yale: You know we have to stop seeing each other, don't you.

Mary Wilke: Oh, yeah. Right. Right. I understand. I could tell by the sound of your voice on the phone. Very authoritative, y'know. Like the pope, or the computer in 2001.

  • Isaac Davis: You know what you are? You're God's answer to Job, y'know? You would have ended all argument between them. I mean, He would have pointed to you and said, y'know, "I do a lot of terrible things, but I can still make one of these." You know? And then Job would have said, "Eh. Yeah, well, you win."
