The Constant Gardener

The wise listen to the silent, and the wise see the inaction.
This is a line of dialogue from Liu Yunlong's TV series The Conspiracy, but it fits perfectly in the movie I just watched.
Some people say that Rachel Weisz won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in a role similar to the protagonist. I believed this at first, but after watching "The Constant Gardener" "It was only after this film that I found out that there is no choice for no reason, and similarly, there is no award for no reason.
It's like "Crash" winning the best picture award over "Brokeback Mountain", there is nothing worth discussing, because as an audience, while enjoying "Brokeback Mountain", you also can't deny the profound and profound meaning of "Crash". excellent.

There are two translations of "The Constant Gardener" on the market, one is the literal translation of "The Immortal Gardener", and the other is "Murder of Suspect". Both names are very reasonable. "The Constant Gardener" is more philosophical and has far-reaching connotations. , and "Suspenseful Murder" is probably to cater to the audience's appetite and conform to the popular trend of today's "suspense". But in fact, the "suspense" of this film is not as intense as the French film "The Empire of War" some time ago, but basically unfolds in a slow rhythm (in my opinion), unhurried step by step. The truth, the time interspersed, the space transformation are all very good, and the ending is reasonable and intriguing. Even the plot of Tessa's murder was just a brief account of the corpse (but the scene of Justin seeing Tessa's body moved me very much, because he did not show deep waves, but deeply suppressed his inner sadness - I think it's even harder to perform than life and death). And what made me feel a little bit irritated in this film is the scene where Justin finally came to "finish" his car before he was about to commit suicide by drinking a bomb at Lake Tucana, and the people on it came with knives and guns step by step, There is no bloody scene, but it gives people a subtle sense of violence, a bit of hair standing up... It should be said that this is a suspense film that is not suspenseful, but has a different flavor.

The film starts off with Tessa's aggressive and unyielding character, rambling and chattering during Justin's press conference. Then the two quickly got married and got pregnant. Very romantic, isn't it? I really don't understand who said that Rachel Weisz's acting was bad. But the few minutes he broke into Justin's house was brilliant. Especially when she asks Justin to take her to Africa, the subtle changes in her demeanor are truly exquisite. The plot of the film basically needs no introduction, and it is too boring to say.

The style of this film is very similar to that of "City of God". After checking, I found that the two films were the work of the same director, Fernando Merrills (hehe, really ignorant). It can be seen from the two films that although Africa is as backward as imagined, the scenery is very charming, and it is not all deserts as imagined. In some places, the large-scale erosion of soil layers is extremely magnificent. This reminds me of a very famous African documentary on CCTV (can't remember the name). But in both Merrills films, and even in Nicholas Cage's "Lord of War," we're pained to see what's going on in Africa's chaos—and that pain doesn't come from him Poverty and backwardness come from his massacres and the brutality of the government. After all, the massacres and brutality in Africa are different from the "religious-dominant" factors in the Middle East, and his profound reasons may be more worthy of our pondering.
Just imagine, if Africa is separated from the whole earth and exists alone, perhaps her backwardness will only bring them simplicity and loneliness in their lives, and bloodshed to a certain extent, but whether it is the entry of scientific and technological civilization that has caused the bloodshed. Escalate and intensify?
Maybe, no one is right. So Africa's backwardness is the fault? But I regret to find in the film that the cuteness of African children is no different from that of various races on other continents, but more innocent. And once these children grow up, many of them become executioners who kill without blinking an eye.

At the end of the film, the big scandal of the pharmaceutical company was revealed, and the spokesperson said with a joke: "Of course, we can't say that the British government is at fault, and at the same time, we can't blame the respected DRH company..."
Cong Those who hear are silent, those who are enlightened are seeing inaction. It's like Justin's effort for the truth, everything has its own story.
