1) The gender awareness of the 1979 film is so modern, it is too rare. Who says only women can be good parents? Who says only men can support their families?
2) Meryl Streep is really a big devil. She was so beautiful more than 40 years ago. One of the highlights was running away from home/divorce, the other was the court testimony, and the other was giving up custody in the end. The mother, who was responsible for abandoning her husband and son, and who later destroyed the life of the hero and her son, was finally rehabilitated. Sure enough, she won a (1/17 of her career) Oscar statuette.
3) Dustin Hoffman is said to have always been hard to say about co-actors, especially actresses, so Meryl's ability to perform well under such pressure speaks for itself. “And there was no way Dustin could shake her. No way he could do anything to shake her. She was just there, and she was an incredible force.”
