On the way to the bone

First of all, I think it is biased to just classify "Winter's Bone" as a drama.
The whole film describes not only the 17-year-old girl's difficult road to find her father, but also the pain and perseverance of the girl's collision, friction, groping, and struggling with the whole world on this road. As the eldest daughter in the family, caring for younger siblings and a mentally ill mother dominated Ree's entire life. And it was under such pressure that she was forced to face the fact that the house, the forest farm, which was used as collateral by her bailed father, was about to be seized by the court...
She watched Ree walk by all the way, and watched her being taken by relatives who were related to the incident, The local forces (and distant relatives in a sense) rejected and attacked them one by one; watching her tossing between family and pursuit; watching her with scars and curling up in the fierce but still unyielding expression; watching her with a faint Proud said "Bread and butter, I told you", and sighed while unable to bear it.
To be so strong.
It's not that there is no yearning, just looking at the recruits who are training from behind the glass door, the eager eyes clearly tell everything. That's probably the only brilliance in Ree's eyes that matches her age in the entire film. In addition, I only see habitual maturity, helpless stubbornness and perseverance. But even this small dream is not allowed by reality.
I'm not going anywhere. Saying such words, Ree hugged his younger brother and sister tightly, holding his responsibility tightly.
No matter how difficult it is, if even the backbone that supports it is bent, even the soul will be lost. "Never ask for what ought to be offered" "There`sa bunch of stuff that you`re gonna have to get over being scared of." These words are not so much a rebuke to Sonny, but more of what Ree has been saying to Listen for yourself.
There can be many things to fear, which may be concrete things or abstract feelings. And most of the responses we can give are confrontation and avoidance. Facing it head-on, many times it will be followed by heart-piercing pain or the torment of tearing the cocoon; and avoiding it, in the end, it will just let fear secretly spread mildew in the damp corner of life.
So Ree resolutely dipped his hands into the lake where his father's body was soaking, no matter how much he choked in his heart, he was determined not to change.
The winter of searching for bones came to an end.

Winter's Bone quotes

  • Gail: [after asking her husband to let her use his truck] He said no.

Ree: Did you tell him I'd spring for gas?

Gail: I told him. He still won't.

    Ree: Why not?

Gail: He never says why not to me, Ree, he just says no.

Ree: Man, it's so sad to hear you say he won't let you do somethin' and then you *don't* do it.

Gail: It's different once you're married.

Ree: It really must be. 'Cause you ain't never used to eat no shit.

  • Ree: He might be hangin' around with Little Arthur and them. You think?

Teardrop: You don't wanna go around Little Arthur's askin' them people about anything they ain't offered to talk about. That's a real good way to end up et by hogs... or wishin' you was.
