"Don't Let Me Go": Sin and Well-Being

Death is something that need not be rushed, something that will not be missed no matter how delayed it is, a festival that is bound to come.

became more and more pessimistic about death as he got older, but pessimism does not mean that he can die immediately and fearlessly. It just means that when death comes, there is no pain and fear as expected. Of course, these deaths do not concern themselves, so it would be unfair to say that, but for some people who are suffering from illness and life is better than death, death is the blessing of God, and it is a grand festival.

Looking at life with a cold eye, there are two kinds of people who are most afraid of death. One is the person who has the money and power to call the wind and the rain. It is the time when the spring breeze is proud of the horse's hoof. Those who are worried and worried are full of the idea that if one person has not been saved, all sentient beings will not be saved, even if they work hard to death, they will not rest their eyes. As far as the current social situation is concerned, the former is increasing day by day, while the latter is basically extinct. Therefore, while the former is in a state of fear, power and technology are popular. The film "Don't Let Me Go" was filmed on the assumption of this social background. It is not difficult to see that the film deliberately downplays this social environment. Under the cover of a sci-fi coat, it seems to tell a love story, but behind the love is an extremely cruel and cold reality.

The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by the British-Japanese writer Kazuo Ishiguro. In the film, whether it is the dark and blurred picture, the soothing and restrained rhythm, or the sad fateful tone that fills the whole film, all of them reflect the kind of extreme Japanese writers. The self, and the almost paranoid delicate and subtle, almost perverted feeling of repression are fully revealed. Although the time setting of the story is in the past, the technology and events are looking into the future, and they deliberately avoid the introspection and independent consciousness of clones in the past film and television themes. The detailed description of human beings born out of jealousy and then separated, magnifies the emotions, jealousy, and confusion of cloned human beings, showing their emotional experience no different from normal people. It turns out that they also have profound feelings and independent souls.

Humans are built on the existence of clones. Strangely, humans are indifferent to their other selves, while clones are curious about their original self. Humans keep them in captivity in a so-called "school" and watch over them like prisoners, only to bring them when they need it, and the food and education are only so that they can provide healthy organs, like feeding cows. Just like music can produce milk, those tattered toys and indifferent eyes say it all, clones are just a guinea pig in the hands of human beings, a tool to delay death. It can be seen from this that with the rapid development of science and technology, human beings are becoming more and more ruthless, and the human race that has abandoned all worldly fetters and is reshaped only by the involvement of a weak hairspring has a desire for love and a calm indifference to death. This is really true. An irony! Whatever the purpose, this discovery is both a sin and a blessing for humanity. Sin makes people reflect on their hearts, and well-being guides the way.

The film also touches on the glorious side of human nature. The new female teacher finally couldn't hold back her conscience and told them the truth. The film did not show the female teacher leaving, but she said it in the dignified and intimidating voice of the principal. If the truth is revealed, for acts of betrayal of the same kind, I guess it may be expulsion at light level, or death penalty at worst. In the end, the brilliance of humanity will inevitably be swallowed up by darkness.

The ending of the story is suffocating, cold and suffocating. The three of them accepted their own destiny without exception, without escaping, without fighting, or even complaining. Obviously, if there are no lovely people and respectable things in this world, it is better to live than to die. In fact, death is not scary, what is scary is the deep fear of death, and the loss of ethics and morality and the loss of humanity caused by this fear.

Never Let Me Go quotes

  • Kathy: It had never occurred to me that our lives, which had been so closely interwoven, could unravel with such speed. If I'd known, maybe I'd have kept tighter hold of them and not let unseen tides pull us apart.

  • [first lines]

Kathy: My name is Kathy H. I'm 28 years old. I've been a carer for nine years. And I'm good at my job. My patients always do better than expected, and are hardly ever classified as agitated, even if they're about to make a donation. I'm not trying to boast, but I feel a great sense of pride in what we do. Carers and donors have achieved so much. That said, we aren't machines. In the end it wears you down. I suppose that's why I now spend most of my time not looking forwards, but looking back, to The Cottages and Hailsham, and what happened to us there. Me. Tommy. And Ruth.
