World Opened Ridley Scott's information, I was a little surprised. It turned out that I watched a lot of his movies over the years, but it never caught my attention. The most impressive thing is that "Alien", in this classic sci-fi horror series, Scott is the founder. The height of terror and the brilliant soundtrack created by that sealed space in Alien is so memorable that it's hard for a latecomer to the series to surpass Scott. However, last year's "Prometheus" has completely changed. Although this is called an alien prequel, the feeling of the past has disappeared at all, leaving only one question, is Scott really old?
I feel that Scott is not good at the subject of science fiction, but "Alien" is too classic. Of course, there is also "Blade Runner", but this film was too obscure for the film at the time, and it was better than not causing much reaction, but it finally proved its worth. Scott's films are more focused on the "blockbuster" ranks, "Black Hawk Down", "Gladiator" and "Kingdom of Heaven" are the most typical. And "American Gangster" and "Stickman" are more in line with reality, and "The End of the Road" is a classic that reflects reality.
Louise and Thelma in the film are ordinary people who can no longer be ordinary, running and living like us, repeating day after day. So they wanted to travel to relieve this numbness, but it didn't work out, the ruffian who invaded Selma angered Louise, who shot him dead. In fact, Louise's bullet is not aimed at evil, but a nightmare of the past, which has been explained in the plot behind this. Those tragic memories made Louise full of fear and distrust of men, causing her to feel confused about her boyfriend. In fact, Louise also wanted to forget the past, but the nightmare had been carved too deep, leaving a permanent scar in her heart.
Selma is a person whose nature has been worn away by life. Although she is a housewife, she is more like a slave to her husband. Not being respected, not being taken seriously, in the eyes of her husband, home is just a hotel, and Selma is just a waiter in the hotel. So Selma's sense of life is so pale that in the later wildness we kind of don't recognize the original Selma, what a stark contrast it is, which explains exactly how vibrant and wild is the stuff Erma's true colors. During the journey, she found a kind of happiness that she did not have before, so that after being cheated of money and sex, she did not show too much pessimism. This seems to be a vent, a crazy and desperate vent. Protest and show that: now is the real self.
Many explanations for this film are a struggle against the patriarchal society, but I don't understand it that way. This is a struggle against reality. I think in that society, not only women, but also many insignificant people are left on the fringes. The powerful and rich people treat them as a group of ants that they can trample on at will. They were ignored and forgotten, and they could only live in despair. Some were driven to a dead end. They struggled and resisted hopelessly. In the end, they were helpless and went to a road of no return. Only in this way can they be freed.
