A small group of idealists struggling to redeem their ideals

In fact, I don’t know if this counts as a film review for this film, but after watching this film, I have a lot of memories of reading and watching before and after the Snowden incident: including Glen Greenwald’s book, “The Fourth Citizen” that won the Oscar囧 Olive's exclusive interview with Snowden, and of course, there are many reports in the news at the beginning... Each piece is floating up, as if there is a feeling that if you don't write it, you will lose money, so let's talk about it.

When the news came out, I felt like I rolled my eyes. After all, I have been fighting with the wall for many years and felt that it is not the default thing to have a network administrator watching at any time. It is because the people of the US imperialists are glass-hearted, and how big a thing is? ! After all, self-censorship is not yet a popular habit, and I don’t see any posts before I have to assess how long it will survive. On the contrary, the speculation of the collective first-class merit of the troops stationed in Macau is even more eye-catching, which makes people extremely happy. So if it wasn't for Xiaojong wearing a melon hat and going to Moscow to interview Snowden in Last week tonight, I would have forgotten about this incident and such a person.

That exclusive interview was very exciting. Xiaojong took him three times from the beginning to the end, making Snowden understand that for the general public, such big words as privacy, freedom, rights and monitoring are far less intuitive than the concrete junk picture. When privacy was embodied as a close-up photo of an organ, the people of Midi went from basically indifferent to patriot act section 215 to jumping three feet against the dick picture act. It was a textbook demonstration of the effect of communication... Then I realized To... the people of Midi are really stupid and sweet. They really don't know or believe that Big Brother is staring at everything, and it is useful to feel that they are unhappy. At the same time, I was also very impressed by Snowden's way of speaking with as much consideration as possible, which was a huge contrast to the expectations that the label of high school dropout brought me. And judging from the rhythm of his interaction with Xiao 囧, he is really a child who knows everything, and I became interested in this person.

Then I went to "The Fourth Citizen" and the famous exposure video. Snowden here has always been wearing huge dark circles, and he still seems very calm when speaking. He even gave me an F word from time to time. A sense of slowness, far less aggressive than Glen's negotiating with the Guardian, even if the content of what he says makes you gasp from time to time. Whether talking about the details of the national surveillance, or the situation of losing his life, family and work, and the possibility of losing his freedom and life, his tone is declarative, full of the power of fact. So he said he didn't want to focus on himself, he just thought it was wrong, and I think what he said was true.

So when I saw this film, my first feeling was that this sense of realism was greatly weakened. Although at the beginning of the film, Jon Joseph's performance of completely changing the way of speaking to be close to the deity is surprising, but the style of the drama conflict in the book is not something that an actor can save. For example, the huge and deformed face of Corbin O'Brian, a senior CIA executive who cultivated Snowden first, in a later video call, such as the tension created by the Rubik's Cube. (The metaphor of going to the light in the end is not blunt, it has nothing to do with it.) In this sense, I think the performance of director Shi Shi is a bit abnormal. In fact, the truth is already very powerful, and we can recognize it even if you don't add these symbols... You can see that the scenes of Miramar Hotel basically follow the way things are.

At the end of the film, it is mentioned that countries in the United States and Europe have begun to restrict all kinds of surveillance in legislation, which reminds me of the recent Snowden interview in which his role slowly changed to fighting for the whistleblowers represented by himself. the legislative environment called for. As he said, if he hadn't come forward to expose it, then mass surveillance would still be just a conspiracy theory. (win press: POI is probably still a fantasy drama rather than a realistic drama) So speaking of it, the obsessions of the silly and sweet can sometimes really bring about changes... and Snowden himself is much more handsome than Jon Joseph ...
