In the name of Goya

"Psychedelic" is a movie that is difficult to find a suitable language to describe. Danny Bauer tested the audience's mentality and intelligence with dazzling lens angles and strong contrasting colors.

"Witch in the Sky" is the beginning and the end of everything. In this oil painting, three witches in pointed hats are floating in the air. The man in their arms looked terrified, struggling with pain, and seemed about to fall. At the bottom of the screen, there is a man with his hands spread out under the mercy of a white cloth. The thumbs of his hands are tampered with the other four fingers at the same time. This gesture is called figo, which means to avoid the devil and evil. At the bottom left, there was a person who looked painful and hugged his head, lying on the ground. In the lower right corner of the screen, there is a donkey almost swallowed by a dark background.

So in this seemingly painful and creepy oil painting, what on earth attracted Danny Ball?

Francisco de Goya is a Spanish romantic painter. In the movie, he is called "the first painter to portray the human mind". Goya's painting style is bizarre and changeable. From his early Baroque style to his later expressionist works, his life is always changing. Goya's father was a gilded, and his mother was born into a declining nobleman. He grew up in a poor family and had no formal education. His later life was very bleak. After resigning as the chief painter of the court for many years, his wife passed away. Goya became seriously ill and completely lost his hearing in both ears. For the rest of his life, Goya lived a life of in-depth simplicity and isolation from the world, hiding in his "house of the deaf" all the time to paint. In the fifth year after his deafness, Goya created this "Witch in the Sky."

Another important element in the movie is hypnosis. Hypnosis has always been one of the most mysterious and fascinating elements in movies. In "Psychedelic", it has been given more power and meaning. In addition to treating various mental illnesses, the hypnotist Eliza can also make the protagonist Simon forget the fact that he loves her distortedly. It is precisely because of this that changed the fate of the three protagonists in the movie.

Danny Bauer uses a lot of colors that intersect with warm and cold, with the intention of constructing a world composed of the front and back of memory, as well as fragments. Frank's home is based on black and brown, while Eliza's home uses orange, which represents enthusiasm and ambition. In addition, a lot of white, blue, brown, green, etc., cold or warm colors are used in the film. At the same time, Danny Bauer also used a large number of complex, mirrors, glass and other reflective mirrors of various shapes to express Simon's broken and incomplete memories.

James McAvoy is the one who plays the leading role in this movie. He is one of the outstanding young actors that have emerged in recent years. His performance style that can burst out of peace reminds me of Jack Nicholson in my youth and Nicholas Cage in his peak period. But in this psychedelic, sometimes the rhythm of his emotional transformation seems to be too fast, and sometimes the emotion is so strong that it can make people acting out.

And Rosario Dawson's performance is the most surprising. She became famous at a young age and her deepest role was the collaboration with Quentin Tarantino and Rodriguez, two cult geeks. However, in this psychedelic she can actually act as a femme fatale that is gentle and charming or dangerous and deadly.

I was deceived by the trailer and thought it was a thriller and suspense blockbuster, but it was actually a fake high-IQ production at a low cost. It's still Director Boyle, Lian Po is old (﹁ ﹁ ) I just want to complain about the scriptwriter's logic? There is a short comment that won my heart: "There are too many slots! If you don't have enough ability, don't engage in this kind of multi-threading, fantasy, and real philosophical bureau. You think that your level of making memory fragments is actually a second-rate horror film."

The inner logic is too weak, and Boyle can't hold the backbone of a movie no matter how he shows off his skills. So far, psychedelic has become confused and fantasy.

Elizabeth: Do you want to remember, or do you want to forget?

  • Elizabeth: She will do anything for you. You fall in love with a kind of perfection, the kind you like. But then you become possessive, suspicious. Night and day, you fear that you will lose her. It torments you, and you become jealous. You start to believe that you depend upon her. That without her, you will die.
