"God has given me the serenity to accept what I can't change; the courage to change what I can; and the wisdom to tell the difference between the two. Take this sinful world, according to its reality. What I am, not what I want. Believe in God, I only need to submit to your will, and everything will be right and straight. In this way, I can live happily in this life, and in the next life, I will be with God, and enjoy eternal happiness, Amen."

Mr. Brooks was still praying devoutly in the middle of the night, then drove into the house in the second and shot and killed a strange couple.

Mr. Brooks is a business celebrity and a socialite on the first level, but a mysterious "fingerprint killer" on the other. He enjoys killing people. Every time he commits a crime, he does not leave any clues, but only prints the blood fingerprints of the deceased on the scene as a sign. . During a killing process, he was photographed by the photographer Smith opposite the apartment, and he threatened Brooks for this, asking Brooks to take him with him next time he killed, so that he could experience the thrill of killing. So Brooks and Smith drove down the street looking for prey.

Female police detective Elwood's investigation into the 'fingerprint killer'. Although facing the troubles of the ex-husband's lawsuit and the revenge of the prisoner who escaped from the prison, he still investigates the "fingerprint killer" separately, and finds the photographer and makes him a key figure.

Around this time, Brooks' daughter, Jane, abruptly dropped out, claiming she had left school because of her pregnancy. A vigilant Brooks realizes that it's as simple as that, it turns out that Jane is also under police investigation for the school's murder. Brooks fell into pain, but he did not expect his daughter to copy her father and embarked on this road of no return. Brooks flies to Jane's school to commit a similar murder, creating the appearance of a serial killer and dispelling the police's suspicions of Jane.

Brooks finds the information of the female police detective and makes her ex-husband Jesse the next prey. So, with Smith, he shot Jesse in his apartment. Brooks then lured Smith to the cemetery, where he ended his life with a shovel. Smith is considered a "fingerprint killer" by police because of the urine evidence he left at Jesse's home, while Brooks is on the loose.

This is not a psychology movie.

Unlike "Fight Club" or "Beautiful Mind", the psychological split personality is the focus, although the dual personalities of "Brooks" and "Marshall" are also involved here.

In addition, the so-called split personality refers to the fact that the patient plays another person without knowing it, and it is impossible for different personalities to communicate. The "beautiful mind" is an illusion, which belongs to the category of schizophrenia in psychology.

If you want to say that this movie has something to do with psychology, it is "multiple personalities" and "addiction". "Dual personality" is actually universal. According to the theory of modern psychology, everyone has multiple personalities. Some people are sometimes decisive and brave, and sometimes hesitant and cowardly. This is the influence of different personalities of people at different times. The reason why the person "Marshall" appeared in the movie is just a dialogue between Brooks' imagination and another personality in his heart.

"Addiction" is a common psychological problem. Some people are addicted to drinking, others are addicted to voyeurism, and Brooks is addicted to killing.

This is a religious movie.

Christian "original sin" thought that people are born with a priori sin. Brooks' uncontrollable killing, the photographer's blood boiling experience after seeing the murder, and Jane's hidden thought of killing her father are all manifestations of "original sin".

It is also about the way of redemption and exile of the soul.

Desperate to save his soul, Brooks, addicted to murder, turned to psychology and joined a psychological support group. Psychology couldn't save him, he volunteered while plotting how to murder.

After finding out that his daughter was also involved in the painful inner struggle of the murder, he thought, "Maybe sending her daughter to prison is the best outcome." At this moment, the possibility of self-salvation occurred, and sending her daughter to prison means solving the problem method, for him, surrender is self-liberation. However, he finally gave up this idea, and instead created the illusion of a serial killer to rescue his daughter, thus giving up self-redemption and choosing the exile of the soul.

He kept praying, expecting God to save his soul, but God did not appear. At the end of the film, Brooks was brutally assassinated by his daughter in a dream, which was even more ironic. What God left Brooks was just a nightmare.
The movie ends with Brooks praying again. Perhaps, there is no redemption; perhaps, God has just come.

Another movie with a split personality, no longer under "Fight Club". At the end of the film, Brooks' dream finally spews out the unreleased plasma of the whole drama, which makes the violent fans visually satisfied, but also I will leave an introduction to the next episode and look forward to a sequel. God gives me peace to accept what I can’t change, gives me the courage to change what I can change, and gives me the wisdom to distinguish the difference between the two. The world that bears this sin calmly is in its reality, not what I want. Believe in God, I just need to submit to your will and everything will be right and straight. I can live this life happily, and in the next life I will be with God and enjoy supreme happiness forever, Amen

Mr. Brooks quotes

  • Marshall: She did it, didn't she?

Mr. Earl Brooks: Yeah. It'll take the cops a week to ten days to put their case together, and then... and then they will come back and arrest her.

Marshall: What are you going to do?

[Earl breaks down and cries, while Marshall hugs him]

Mr. Earl Brooks: Oh, God. Oh, God. I was afraid of this since before she was born. She has... she has what I have.

Marshall: Yes, she does. But you were always smart about it. She was stupid. She did it because she got off - okay, I understand. She's in it for fun - okay, I understand. But why didn't she think it through? A hatchet? And she left it there.

  • Mr. Earl Brooks: Would it bother you to kill a woman?

Mr. Smith: No. No, an asshole's an asshole.
