Thriller becomes suspense

After watching the film, I deliberately watched the tidbits and learned that the film was first positioned as a thriller, but because of director Kevin, it was finally made into a suspense film. To be honest, this film is indeed a bit hanging, and the truth didn't surface until the last moment, but it really seemed a little embarrassing, and the shocking conspiracy that had been paved before was written off. After reading the final subtitles with a "worry" mood, is this the effect the director wants to pursue? It's rare to see a film where Russell Crowe can't act, and I always feel a little uncomfortable...
