white space art

There are some movies that grab an audience's heart from the first minute, and unfortunately this one isn't in that genre. Throughout the first half of the film, the plot seems protracted and boring. Keira Knightley is as lacking in acting as ever, and the male protagonist behaves like a monkey smoking a lot of marijuana.

It wasn't until the soundtrack began to be heavily inserted that the movie started to shine. There is a long section in the middle, which is the process of recording songs. The progress of the plot is almost zero. The so-called exciting does not come from the plot, but from the beautiful soundtrack.

This is a problem with director John Carney's approach: substituting soundtracks for plot development. existThis problem also exists in China. If the development continues in this way, the director will soon be able to abandon this type of urban light comedy movies and switch to Indian musicals.

Having said that, this way of expression does show its uniqueness. That is, several important plot turning points in the film, all of which are expressed through music.

1. The heroine found out that her boyfriend cheated because she listened to a new song written by her boyfriend.

2. The boyfriend changed his mind because he heard the catharsis of the impromptu performance recorded by the heroine with the iPhone.

3. At the end, the heroine turned away resolutely, also because of the way the hero sang.

Since they are all musicians, there is no need to express emotions in words. One cannot hide oneself in the face of music, an art form that comes from the heart. As for what is in it? The director never said it, and doesn't need to say it. It seems that there is nothing, everything is silent. This is precisely the beauty of it.

This is the art of white space.

Of course, as an audience, Keira Knightley is completely understandable to turn her head away at the end, Adam Levine's singing is really bad, and the falsetto part in the middle is like a plucked cock. No wonder Keira Knightley couldn't take it anymore.

Really a good song. If the heroine sang this song in the bar at the beginning, many viewers might not have given up on the film halfway. The only regret is that such a good song does not have a good cover.
