I was fourteen when I first heard about "Death of the Virgin" and read about it in an issue of "Cinema". At that time, I liked Shunji Iwai very much, read "All About Lily Zhou" and watched the movie. There is no doubt that the two films share striking similarities in theme. Seven years later, the former had no less influence on me than the latter at the time. Air's soundtrack can be said to be invincible. The soundtrack of "Lily Week" is very similar to it. If seven years ago I could have read "Lily Chow" as the unsupervised and incomprehensible tragedy of a country child, "Death of the Virgin" is no longer an incredible mass suicide for me. And people who haven't experienced the depression of adolescence can't empathize with it. The boredom of the world. sex drive. Violence. The thrill of death. The collapse and disappearance of religions and beliefs. Parental and traditional repression. My youth was busy with the numbness of learning, and they chose to end their lives as their last struggle. Those little things that are important to adults are actually monotonous crushing sensitive youth. There is no reason to explain the behavior of adolescence. Just like summer rainstorms nowhere to be found. anytime, anywhere, you're my playground love.
