The public trial in a private court, the inner confession of the psychopathic perpetrator. The relationship and contradiction between human rights and morality: whether the psychopathic and irresistible murder should bear the crime, and the moral punishment of the murderer by everyone. Pietro's performance fully demonstrates the charm of expressionism. The first half is a little boring, and the historical status is due to the intentions in the film.

To interpret a classic movie, one must contact the environment at the time. Reading Foucault's "Discipline and Punishment" and "Madness and Civilization" may have an understanding of the European legal system in the film. In fact, in terms of plot, this movie is very rough, but the final judgment means extended. Human rights, freedom, rights, and mental illness are the products of the Middle Ages that soften, and this is the essence of this play.

Franz, the burglar: [Franz is being tricked into thinking he killed the night watchman, and is going to jail for it] Please, Herr Kommissar! I'll tell you everything; even who we were looking for in that damned building.
Inspector Groeber: Really. Who?
Franz, the burglar: The child murderer, Herr Kommissar!
