The ugliness of reality and the light in the dark night

Originally, I wanted to give it three stars when I saw the end, but I decided to give it four stars after watching the ending. In the end, the heroine should have overdose and died, so she can find treasures and fulfill her wish. That is, after entering the world of souls, I found out that it is not the ghosts that are scary, but the hatred and resentment of human beings in reality.

In the past, children would be bullied and scared in reality, causing Thomas to wear a hood and drown, which also allowed Benina to kill five children in revenge. Now, because of the heroine's suspicion and disbelief, Simon is locked in the basement and suffocated to death. . What I don't quite understand after watching the whole drama is why Thomas and other children will find the hostess' house. My guesses are:

1. Because the heroine used to bully Thomas with other children when she was in the orphanage, Thomas held a grudge;

2. Because the heroine left the orphanage, other children started to bully Thomas. After Simon found Thomas, it was just an ordinary play. As a result, when Simon knew that his parents were not his biological parents, he wanted to let his mother stay forever by looking for treasures, and disappearing in the house would be a good way to trap his parents. So Simon was locked up in part because of ghosts. In the end, the heroine died of guilt and overdose, which was also the realization of Simon's wish to be with his mother forever.

Personal opinion, for entertainment only.

The Orphanage quotes

  • Simón: [while reading Peter Pan] Wendy grows old and dies?

Laura: Wendy grows old, but Peter Pan takes her daughter to Neverland every year.

Simón: Why doesn't Wendy go, too? If Peter Pan came to get me, would you come, too?

Laura: No. I'm too old to go to Neverland, darling.

    Simón: How old are you?

    Laura: Thirty-seven.

Simón: At what age will you die?

Laura: What sort of question is that? Not for a long time, until you're very old.

Simón: I won't grow old. I'm not going to grow up.

Laura: Will you be like Peter Pan?

    Simón: Like my new friends.

    Laura: There's more than one?

    Simón: Six.

Laura: They won't grow up either?

    Simón: They can't.

  • Aurora: Seeing is not believing. It's the other way around. Believe, and you will see.
