The Ten Commandments (1956)

The film tells the story of Moses leading the Hebrews to escape from Egypt to the Promised Land in Exodus in the Bible. A long time ago, the Hebrews worked hard under the enslavement of the Egyptian pharaohs, and God allowed Moses to be born in order to understand and save them. When Moses was born, a comet passed by. Pharaoh was very scared and ordered the killing of all Hebrew baby boys. Moses' mother used a bamboo basket to send him into the water, and then he was rescued by Pharaoh's daughter and became her adopted son. More than a decade later, Moses became a powerful heir to the throne, which made the brothers who could also inherit the throne very jealous. The brothers tried every means to embarrass and calculate Moses, but they were all resolved by Moses. Pharaoh's daughter loved Moses very much and wanted to be his wife, but the old maid of Moses' adoptive mother told her who Moses really was—he was a Hebrew. Pharaoh's daughter was surprised when she heard it, but she killed the old maid for the beloved man. Then Moses came, and Pharaoh's daughter told him about it, and Moses deceived her adoptive mother with tricks and learned the truth. In this way, Moses returned to the Hebrews and became a slave. Moses wandered in the Gobi and fainted a few days later, but he survived with the help of God and met a shepherd with seven daughters. Moses soon married one of the women and gave birth to a child. At this time, the brother had become a pharaoh, and he and the pharaoh's daughter also had children of their own. One day, a Hebrew slave that Moses had known found him, hoping that he could save the Hebrews. Moses was not sure, so he went to the mountain area to search for God. In the mountains, Moses saw God, so he returned to Egypt and asked Pharaoh to release his slaves. Pharaoh disagreed, even though Moses frequently used divine threats. Pharaoh became more and more angry, and immediately ordered the killing of all the eldest sons of the Hebrews. Upon hearing this, Pharaoh's daughter hurried to rescue Moses' son. Moses was very angry when he heard about the incident and decided to retaliate. In this way, the eldest son of the Hebrews did not die, but all the eldest sons of the Egyptians died. After seeing this, Pharaoh finally agreed to let all the Hebrews go. After that, the Hebrews began to travel long distances, but the death of Pharaoh's daughter's child made her hate, and she used the law of agitation to ask Pharaoh to hunt down the Egyptians and Moses. The Egyptians quickly caught up. Moses used his supernatural power to erect a pillar of fire, split the Red Sea, and drowned many Egyptians. Seeing this, Pharaoh finally gave in. The safe Hebrews were very happy, and went under the instigation of the bad overseers and started playing around, and all this angered God. God himself engraved the "ten commandments" on the stone slab and asked Moses to admonish the Hebrews to obey them. After Moses came down the mountain, he used the "Ten Commandments" to discipline people who did not want to accept these laws . Forty years have passed and Moses has grown old. He has given everything to others and left by himself.
The box office of this movie is very high, which shows the religious devotion of North American audiences. Of course, in addition to this reason, the good-looking movie is also the guarantee of the film’s good reputation at the box office. In fact, the core of the movie is still the usual Hollywood model, that is, superheroes save the world. Because the movie perfectly shaped a religious hero-Moses. But in my opinion, this movie is just a "perfect counterattack of diaosi", a very popular inspirational story. It's just that the story background of this film is placed in the "myth", just like "Feng Shen Bang".
One of the highlights of this film is its gorgeous and grand scenes. In this respect, it is as jaw-dropping as "Benxu" and "Cleopatra". Luxurious palaces, huge statues, panoramic views of the sea of people, colorful and different styles of clothing, and the "special effects" of the big scene at the end of the movie, all of which make me dare not imagine that this is a movie shot in the 1950s. . Hollywood is really willing to spend money! But looking back at the high box office of this movie, I believe this movie is also a big profit!
The second highlight of the film is the gorgeous and literary dialogue, which looks unique. Objectively speaking, the words spoken by the people in the film are completely divorced from reality and are expressed in written form, but they are not so abrupt in the film. It feels like watching "Zhen Huan's Biography". Although the characters are not "human words", they sound comfortable.
