Boiling oil and cold water

If we compare police and criminal movies to hot oil, then country movies are calm waters. What are the consequences of putting water in hot oil? It must be unimaginable. It can be seen that hot oil and water are irreconcilable. Great literary works come from courageous attempts. The police movie "The Witness" starring Harrison Ford is such a film that combines ice and fire. In terms of content, "The Witness" tells the story of an honest policeman fighting against corrupt colleagues and protecting eyewitnesses. In terms of content, the plot is a bit old-fashioned, but the Amish people in the film are eye-catching. In a world full of temptations, the restraint and perseverance of the Amish bring a touch of warmth to this world.
The state of the Amish people can't help but reminiscent of what the German philosopher Heidegger said, "people live on the earth poetically." Under the blue sky and on the grassland, the Amish people work hard and live poetically. This is almost like a "pastoral song", which provokes some unfulfilled wish of our "modern people". However, if we go deeper into the life world of the Amish people, we may find that they have also been experiencing severe tests of reality, and that poetry is more or less created in our imagination and expectations. Although the Amish have endured the impact of modern culture, their persistence in simple life and restraint in material desires still make modern people ashamed. Recalling our current life, the quality of material life has become the only criterion for people's success. Knowledge is materialized, life is materialized, and emotions are materialized. When neither material nor spirit can maintain a kind of innocence, we even feel a kind of helpless involuntary. Therefore, the poetic life of the Amish is so precious.
In today’s hospitals, due to the lack of medical resources, there are various misunderstandings between doctors and patients. We try our best to argue but appear pale and weak. Perhaps we should learn from the Amish attitude towards life, restraint and persevere, and don’t care about others treating us. As long as we are calm inside.

Witness quotes

  • Rachel Lapp: [Book and Carter are driving around a rough neighborhood looking for a suspect that fits Samuel's description, with Rachel and Samuel in tow] Where are you taking us?

John Book: I'm sorry... we're looking for a suspect in the area, we'd like the kid to take a look at him.

Rachel Lapp: You have no right to keep us here.

John Book: Oh, yes I do. Your son's a material witness to a homicide.

Rachel Lapp: You don't understand. We want nothing to do with your laws.

John Book: Doesn't surprise me. A lot of people I meet are like that.

John Book: [after Samuel and Rachel converse in German] What'd he say?

Rachel Lapp: He asked who you are, your name. I told him we didn't need to know anything about you.

    John Book: Book... John Book!

  • Rachel Lapp: [as she and Samuel are walking through the police station with Book] When can we leave the city?

John Book: We're trying to get this done as quickly as possible, then you can go. But, Samuel's probably gonna have to come back to testify. I'm sorry.

Rachel Lapp: No, you are not, you are glad.

    John Book: Huh?

Rachel Lapp: Because now you have a witness.

John Book: Yeah, now I got a witness.

Rachel Lapp: I just don't like the idea of my son spending all this time with a man who carries a gun and goes around whacking people!

John Book: [in disbelief] Whacking?... whacking?
