I watched this film because I was attracted by the domineering clip of Michelle Yeoh at the beginning. It can be regarded as a [good] of Hollywood Asian movies, but as far as I am concerned, it doesn’t seem to resonate with ordinary people in my mainland, even a little embarrassed. I watched the whole film three times...
Everyone has their own understanding of Asian culture, but the Nanyang Chinese culture presented in this Nanyang version of "Cinderella" & "Meteor Garden" & "Little Times", I feel exaggerated and bloody? ? ? (Because it's based on the author's real experience, and I'm not a Nanyang Chinese, so I don't think it's not true.) It's completely the stereotypical Chinatown aesthetic of the United States... I wonder if there really is that kind of big red lanterns hanging high and eating Chinese refreshments. Epiphany party? Is there really a second generation of Asian f who will dance to the old jazz music of the 40.50s ballroom at the wedding ceremony? (This is a movie from 18 years... After watching it, there is a strong pompous style of Thai-Indian idol dramas, and I really don't feel the Chinese culture that resonates a little.
However, some inspirational clips are quite inspiring. For example, the heroine decides to show confidence to gain respect under the persuasion of her good friend, and the second girl can get rid of her unsatisfactory husband and let go of the blind accommodation...and I was moved by the marriage scene in the movie. ——“I came here by wading, upstream, just to meet you.”
Finally, let's talk about the most useless male protagonist in the film. It's been a year since you've been in a relationship and you're about to propose, don't you tell your girlfriend about your family background? Your girlfriend is going to your exaggerated party to meet her family for the first time. Didn't you tell her to prepare it? Why do film and television dramas always like to make the final proposal on the plane that others are going to leave, isn't it better to look for it in advance? And the happy ending also makes people feel speechless. Since your mother has tacitly agreed, isn't it bad for the two to go back to New York to achieve a career? Another group of fox friends and dog friends held a carnival party at the Jinsha Hotel... It wasn't the heroine who was also dissed for a golden turtle. How could they be integrated in the next second? Isn't new money against old money?
This is an Asian fairy tale of American aesthetics, take a look at it.
