Neorealist films usually focus on the life of the working class, set in a poor socio-cultural setting, implying a better society, with little difference between rich and poor, and a balanced distribution of materials. There are many excellent works of neo-realism movies, and "The Bicycle Thief" is one of them.
The title of the film is quite suggestive, and you can guess in the first 5 minutes of the film that this seemingly lucky migrant is about to lose his car. Doesn't he have a car? No, what we care about is not how the car got here, but how it didn't. Director Vittorio de Sica naturally understands the small calculus in the hearts of the audience, so when you think that the urchin is a thief, the kung fu car going downstairs is gone, but this did not happen. The bicycle that symbolized this survival tool and a bright future was snatched away in a way we didn't expect. So Kiki, the owner of the story, started a journey to find a bicycle. He only has one day, and he can live without worry if he finds a family. If he can't find it, it means that the hard days will continue.
Ritchie was looking for a bike, but a chance to survive. The son around him is brave, strong, and smart, but he is helpless to the status quo. His ignorant expression is also not lacking in a positive and optimistic smile. Like this film, "Happiness Knocks on the Door" also uses the setting of the male protagonist plus a little boy, which increases the male protagonist's sense of responsibility. When encountering a bottleneck in survival, the boy is their support and has become a survival power. At the end of the story, the director did not give everyone a movie ending, that is, they found the thief and took back the bicycle, and they started a happy life. Instead, Richie bowed his head and cried bitterly, following a large number of people who are the same or different from him towards the sun. The lonely back in the direction of the falling mountain is the end. The witch said that Richie couldn't find what he lost this afternoon, and he couldn't find it again. His back at this time must have given up.
Even today, 60 years after the film, the same story is still happening, right around us, or we're going through it. This is an unavoidable contradiction in human society. Therefore, when you see such a story, you will not find it difficult to understand. The way the director ends the film is also intriguing. He didn't give us a clear answer, did Ritchie really lose his job, or was he going to advance some salary to buy a new bike? In fact, when you continue, you will find that the fact that there is no bicycle can not be the end of the story, but this fact gives the audience more room for imagination. So life goes on and loses some of the things that you think are important. In fact, this is the road to another world, good or bad, it always has a way to survive.
